Truck: 06 F-350 CC Long bed dually 6.0 Powerstroke

Problem: 4 gallons of gasoline was put into the diesel tank on accident, is there any way of draining the fuel tank without having to take it completely off of the truck? Thanks in advance.

 

I would probably not bother to drain if the rest of the tank is diesel. Rather run it a little and add more fuel a couple of times to dilute and burn it out.

 

gasoline has no lubricity--it will wash out the injectors --i would not start-drive the vehicle--i would flush out the fuel tank

IIRC, 8' dually is a 40 gallon tank?

I would top off w/ diesel,drive about 10 gal. out,top off again,repeat once more and wouldn't worry about it.

 

PUT SOME ENGINE OIL IN YOUR DIESEL TK,SAW AN OFFSHORE BOAT THAT THE FUEL DOCKS HAD SCREWED UP BIG TIME,THEY CALCUATED ABOUT WHAT THE RATIO WAS AND FIRED HER UP WITH EVERYBODY STANDING AWAY FROM THE ENGINE COMP. IT WORKED, EVEN IF YOU PUT A LITTLE MUCH I DON"T THINK IT WILL HARM THE ENGINE.TBRADSIM

 

We used to mix gas in with diesel up to a certain percent to help prevent it from gelling in cold temps. Mercedes "used to" approve up to 50%. That was thirty years ago. Not at all sure about the newer higher pressure extremely close tolerance injection. For that amount of oops, I think I'd fill it with diesel and see if it detonates as in preignition clatter. You really can hear it over the normal diesel staccato. If not, I'd run it out.

 

My grandpa used to over the road truck and he said the same thing about guys mixing gas in to keep their trucks from gelling, but he didn't know with these new high compression engines and I'm not familiar with them enough either.

 

don't worry about it at all. your engine will be fine. just dump some good 2 stroke oil in her for lubricity & keep topping her off with diesel.

 

I agree top off your tank with diesel and drive it, you'll probably notice it seems to have more power, however if you don't feel comfortable driving it disconnect your fuel line on the engine side of the pump, and cycle your key over and over again( might need to hook up a battery charger)

 

Agreed, if you are going to worry about it just drain it with the fuel pump. I've heard of people adding oil and running it without problems but I am a worrier !

 

We see it all the time out here in Afghanistan on the airfield. About 1/2 of the Toyota Hillux pickups driven on base are diesel, as are about 1/2 of the side by side ATVs (generically called Gators.). If the mix is under 30% or so, dump some 2 stroke in and press on. Top the tank off as often as you can to dilute the mixture. You will probably see a reduced power level, as gasoline does not have as many BTUs per gallon as diesel fuel.

If the engine will not start you'll need to drain the tank and get some fresh fuel into it.

One popular myth is that a diesel engine will explode if there is too much gasoline. It isn't true. Gasoline is rated in octane, which is the resistance to igniting without a spark. The resistance to igniting without a spark will cause the engine to not start if there is enough gasoline in the mixture.

Where is the fuel pump located on these trucks?

 

it's the frame mounted filter housing also

 

My question would not be if it is bad for the engine but what will happen during regen? For the cost of the vehicle I am more prone to lean towards caution since my wallet isn't that full.....
