Code Reader Error

I own a 2006 Ford F250 and I'm having trouble with my OBDII code reader. The code reader operates correctly in other vehicles, but will not work in my F250. The code reader powers on, but only displays "Err." I do not see any non-factory wire splices or damage to the harness leading to the diagnostic plug below the dash. Can anyone shed some light on the subject?

All fuses in both fuse boxes check out fine with a voltmeter. Thanks for the input.

Have you checked the operation of the socket?? 99% of the time it is that fuse.

Great idea. The cigarette lighter works correctly, but I will check out the fuse slot again tomorrow. Hopefully I missed something simple. Thanks for the help rwilimo.

Your code reader has to be can bus compatible, if it is OBD II only it will not work on your truck. I made the same mistake with an older code reader that I had.

Maybe that is the whole issue. I just have an ordinary OBDII code reader. I thought that they were universal for all late model vehicles. I guess that I will have to look into a new code reader with CAN/BUS capabilities. Thanks for the help 3000 FPS.

My Wife is from Cheyenne. I plan on retiring there in another 2 years. I can hardly wait to get out of where I am. Good luck with the truck.

Krewat: The truck is equipped with a 5.4 liter V8 and Torqshift automatic transmission.
