Hollowed out cat will it still pass emissions?

I have an '05 excursion and I live in colorado where we have emissions. I have a 4" turbo back exhaust with a muffler delete and I also have the egr delete system with the valve still there. If I hollow out my cat will it still pass emissions? I know I will pass the visual inspection but I am worried about the smog test?

do you have tuner?
if you do , than have somone write you a tune for smog testing.
all they have to do is take the fuel out, and drop your rev limiter less fuel less rev and noone will know hehe, no soot no problem.

i doubt it. SCT yes, not edge. i dont think anyone makes custom tunes for edge.
get SCT dump edge on ebay, and you will never look back. more power better tunes, and safer too.

Yeah that's what I am finding out one of the main reason's I got the edge was because of the adjust on the fly and it's not that great.

Agree - I was told shift on the fly was critical and never found that it was
especially now that the SCT gives better mpg, et's, and drivability that I never change it !
and doubly so once I heard of all the tranny failures because of the edge not programming the tranny computer...

but if you haven't gutted your cat, I would think long and hard before doing that....

they are EXPENSIVE to replace when you need to....

removing it won't help you much... it flows pretty well, and unless you are going for a race truck... not worth the chance of a $10,000 federal emission tampering fine

I had my cat off the 03 Ex for a bit when I did my turbo back and put it back on...
only real difference was a little different sound ...
even at the drag strip, the difference was hardly noticable....
less of an effect than a temp change or traction issue

good luck !

If you really want to dump the cat, purchase a cat delete pipe and you can put the cat back in before your emissions test.

It will probably pass just fine without the cat. They just do a snap throttle test for smoke, check OBDII codes, and a visual inspection.

If CO does a tailpipe sniff test, it may fail. Most states don't do that for diesels, but I don't know about CO. If they just do the visual, smoke, and OBD test, it should pass okay.

I agree about it being a waste of time to delete it. Other than sound, mine ran the same with and without it. With it the exhaust smell was a little less acrid, but even that was only after a long hot run.

Mine passes the emission test. Lower emissions without this crap installed.
Hollow it out, delete your EGR and do a CCV reroute.
Leave the EGR valve in the manifold plugged in, this
is for the visual "Tampering" test and keeps the ECM happy.

Here are my results as of December 2009 (sniff)

Opacity Standard (max allowed) 20.00
Opacity at 50 MPH .40
Opacity at WOT 1.00

Before the test I return my truck back to stock tunes.
I recommend ditching the "edge juice" and buying the SCT.
I ruined my last trucks transmission running the Edge.

If you want to burn the money you could drop the $50-$60 for an a/m delete. Or you could do what I did for $20.

I still have my OEM kitty sitting in the back of the shop...just in case I need it some day.

another reason to get a SCT
isn't the reason to delete the cat to get your EGTs down?
