Cooper sst's...

Does anybody have experience with the Cooper Discoverer SST? I came across a really good deal on a set for my 03 but haven't seen or done any research on them before. For those that have them, how are they on the road? I spend most of my time on the Interstate but need a good off road tire for our rainy season. (which in S.E. Georgia is March to September) Thanks for any info.

i like mine, pretty good in rain/mud/snow Cooper Tires. Don't Give Up A Thing. Ultra-High Performance, Passenger, Light Truck, SUV, Motorsport, Motorcycle and Commercial Tires is the website. Just be sure they are e-rated ones.

Ride well, some noise at the higher speeds-to be expected. Clean out good.

Sorry that was supposed to be STT. They're such a good deal right now because some guy ordered these (325/60/18) to go on his factory F350 but when he turned lock to lock they rubbed his tie rod. They never left the parking lot but they can't send them back and can't sell them for full price. I think $1100 is a pretty good deal on a set.

Huh??? Discount tire is selling them brand new for $218 each. I would think that you could get 40% off of that just for taking away his problem.

Thanks for pointing Discount tire out! They told me these tires typically run the same price as Toyo M/T's which were $369 a peice from them. I guess they're just really high on they're tires! Thanks again, thought it was a good deal but that's why I always check in here before buying anything for my truck.

No problem. I just purchased a set of Cooper tires recently and had a hard time finding large volume internet retailers that sell them. I ended up buying from a local shop because they were able to get within $5 on each tire after I figured in shipping costs and mounting and balancing. I felt good supporting a local business and got free lifetime rotation and flat repair. Everything is negotiable. You just have to ask.... and if you don't ask then you definitely won't get a discount.

sounds like a good price on them, better that what I got. But what is the load rating? You may also need at least a leveling kit.

I bought 4 tires called Cyclone Sport A/T, they are made by Cooper Tire. A good strong aggressive all terrain tire, almost a BF Goodrich A/T pattern design. But better traction and sipe. A small amount of road noise, depending on road surface, can't hear them at all on dirt and gravel roads. Unless you count the noise from gravel being thrown from the deep tread.
Cost $535 mounted, balanced, taxes, fees out the door.

I have the STT, glad you cleared it up which you were looking at. Mine were about $900 - $990 (I don't remember exactly, but remember it was 9s and 0s). Mine are 295/70/17 though, so smaller than what you're getting.

They're pretty good, but I got a "D" load rating and won't make that mistake again. They have the same weight rating as a lot of "E" tires, but they are squirmier. Offroad they do pretty well, but they get pretty loud after 20-30,000 miles.

I put a set of stt on this fall. They are really good in the mud. They are really noisy at hwy speed. So far I would rate them as a good tire if you drive off road. For a full street tire they are a little over kill. They handle good with a load or towing. I have yet to drive in the snow with them but I am sure they will do well.

I have run Cooper light truck tires before and had good luck with them. I am not familiar with this particular size, but the Discoverer AT in LT255/85/16 load range D was a good tire for us on a HD 3/4 ton truck.

I have the STTs in 35x12.50. They are a pretty good tire, not too noisy, but I won't be getting them again because they are absolutely terrible on ice. I'll probably go back to Toyo ATs next. Since you run a lot of highway, you would be better off sticking with an AT, if you want an aggressive look go for the Pro Comp Xtreme AT or Dick Cepek FCII.
