Well I am back from Korea and have been tinkering on the truck almost daily. I have noticed when I start the truck it will surge for a few minutes then the idle will settle down and be fine.

Also I tried checking my timing. I cleaned and marked the timing marks. removed the shortening plug but am unable to see the timing marks. Am I missing something?

Make sure you have the light on the # 1 wire , look at the timing pointer ...Lew
