Robert,

That would be swell! I might need the clips too. When you gift wrap it, could you use some of that perforated board they make the headliners out of? I will probably be needing a large sheet, so don't spare the material.

Oh, and I can't remember the % ammonia solution, but if you have some of that left over, well, you know...

One last thing, and I really hate to bring this up, especially after you have been so nice and all, but if you could send some gas money, not a whole lot, mind you, but just enough to get me there and back, it would sure make the trip easier to plan.

See you soon!

Greg

me too Robert lol

JK, hey I really like the pictures you posted Robert in LisaF100s thread showing the reversed image of the hood on the headliner. I really like that headliner.

I didn't realize it at the time but I was a lucky dog to find a used headliner in very good condition for cheap out of a '66 F100. Already bent into shape and carefully removed. I painted it white and installed it in my formerly headliner-less truck. I know it had a headliner at one time. Now it has a pretty good original one and I should hit the casino because I feel lucky.

I have to disagree with you OldHarley, when it comes to installs looking like crap...I did mine with the DC kit,
taking my time and it turned out fantastic. The key, is to use Diamond Grip rubber gloves, and change them
often. Also, TBM3's method of 10% amonia solution in H2O is great, adds a lot of flex.

What seems to get guys is the initial lining up to the main piece anchor screw...trick is, remove the rear window
and run a 2x4 through the rear window opening and rest it on the dash, and anchor it down-tape etc. The 2x4
has a hole drilled to accept a laser pointer which lines up to the roof crew hole. trigger the laser and voila, once
you put the headliner main piece into place in the front clips at the front...it's easy, you have your screw spot.

Corners are easy-wet them and go slow. Also, the DC kit needs to be trimmed slightly for the rear piece
(last after corners) where they groove into the window area...otherwise the fit is too tight and disaster looms.

Greg,
So you are coming, how nice. You know, Hemet has'nt been the same since you left.
I've bundled up your wish list. Had a little trouble getting it all to fit in the box, heck with the perforated board and all. I did manage to find a box that everything fit in. I remembered I had a watch box left over from xmas when I got my new Timex, everything fit perfect.
As for the gas money, Not a problem, you'd have to pick it up here, you know I would hate to mail it and it got lost or something. I don't trust Western Union. Electronic transfering is to scary. Bank transfer just as scary as electronic transfer.
You make it here and I'll send you back. I think the money I made on the last sale of a headliner pattern is around here somewhere. You know what? I'ts all yours. That should pay for all your gas.
Look forward to your visit, It should be a hoot.

Robert,

You know I was just speaking with Jerry Franchville the other day about how much I missed fishing on Diamond Valley Lake.

Just wondering, but are you still planning to appear in Ramona this year, because I understand it was just not the same without you once you left the cast.

I need to run by BJ Sporting Goods and pick up a couple of items for the boat before I come by, though. I'll drop K & S on San Jacinto and grab a case of beer also before I get there.

I am looking forward to it!

Why would you bring up Ramona? Granted it was my first acting gig. After several seasons I had to quit. It was'nt because they found anyone better I realized acting was not for me.
For those of you reading along, I had a part in the play "Ramona" I was in most scenes, including close-ups. I was not noticed outside the play due to make-up. You see I played the "large rock" on the left.
I want to thank Greg again for bringing this up. I thought I was cured but I'll be back in therapy thanks to Greg.
No need to stop by BJ's I have a chebby motor you can use for an anchor on your fishing boat. As for beer remember I don't drink or fish I'll just watch from shore.
Looking forward to your visit. Drive safe.

Boy, Cropdusterdude, am I glad I read your post! Here I was planning to remove the steering column, crossmember, drop the transmission, remove the carpets and front seat, cut out the front floorboards and epoxy a laser pointer into a precisely-sized hole I had contracted to be drilled into my driveway based on a mathematical interpolation of GPS coordinates.

Now I find out that I only will need to remove the entire rear window!

OK, I know this may sound crazy, but bear with me here.... what if I got a saw...OK, I'm just sayin' now... and cut that 8-foot long 2x4 a little shorter so it would set on the dash as you suggested and maybe the other end could just set on the rear seat leanback or rear cab or gas tank?

Nah, probably wouldn't work.

Dude You are killin' me.... How about just taping the laser pointer to the front edge of the front seat, pointed up! Or for about 30 bucks you can get the Harbor Freight pointer that has a little tripod! Or maybe go buy a German short haired pointer, to point at the spot! You could contact ATC (Air traffic control ) to give you a GPS fix. Ah but then you would need to add a transponder to your rig! Oh it is all good fun!

Wow, I am so glad that you guys don't have a tendency to over complicate issues!!! I am trying to find a truck I can borrow the headliner out of, and I plan to make a template that I can print on a plotter, and then I will make mine out of PVC plastic. I will keep you all informed as to how I do on my mission.

Only to you Greg.
Now lets get back to the installation of headliner. I really think you guys are ovethinking this, what with all your modern tech stuff and gadgets It would definately be crooked when your done. The trick is, and I don't know if I should be saying this.... nah I can't. Well alright. It's simple even OldHarley can do it. First remove cab from frame, place cab on rotiserie. Turn cab over until upside down. Place headliner on floor/roof place screws in appropriate spot and, whats the word? Voila. Now reverse order and, Voila.
Whats next?

Bum, I've got the headliner pieces. I just don't know what to make the template out of. The plastic works really nice. Like I said, that's what I made mine out of. Any suggestions on what to make the pattern out of. I built and installed aircraft interiors for many years and this is a really simple fix if you don't care about it being original. The template needs to be something that can be folded into a small enough piece that it can be shipped easily. I've been looking for something that's really durable but flexible.

I found some PVC sheets at Home Depot, but they turned out to be too pliable. I need to find something a little thicker to install.

I was thinking a little simpler (for shipping) on the pattern. If you could get the pattern into a CAD program, and then make a PDF you could ship via email, and the receiver could go to Kinko's or other such place and have it printed on a plotter. Then just cut out the print out and place over Fiber Reinforced Panels or other media to actually make the liner. It also solves the issue Garbz had. You don't email them until they pay via paypal or other method.

Everyone is making this way to complicated. I am going to make a patter out of something in the next few weeks. It will be small enough when folded and light enogh to mail in an envelope. I will get your mailing address and send it to you. If you have a good auto trim shop in your area that carries carpet, pattern material, screws and fateners, etc. they should carry the black plastic sheeting like I used. Mine was 1/16" thick. Anything else is to rigid and too hard to work with. Let's use the " kiss" principal. Keep it simple stupid. I think you will like the headliner after you get it covered.
