Hi All,
I just recently joined the list.
My son and I recently acquired a pretty decent 1976 Ranger F150. My son found it via a friend of his, sitting in a barn in Oregon.
The truck has approx 73K on it, is equipped with a 360 engine, factory air, minus the compressor and mounting bracketry and hoses.
Since getting it a couple weeks ago, we've replaced the 2bbl carb, added an inline fuel filter, replaced plugs, wires, cap & rotor, replaced both draglinks, adjuster sleeve and pittman balljoint. I installed some 2" lowering shackles on the rear end and found there were air shocks there also. They still work!
It goes down the road pretty good now.
The one problem I'm having is excessive blowby. I replaced the valve cover gaskets thinking the left was leaking. Now I know.
A compression test will be next to pinpoint which cylinder is having issues.
Depending on the problem, I'm not above pulling a head, replacing a bad piston or rings but the bore will have to be serviceable and there's no way to know this without getting it apart.
Ultimately, future plans already include a 390 engine, about the same as came in the '67 Fairlane GT, minus a little compression ratio.
The FE engines are new to me.
My experience with Ford engines thus far include, several 351 Windsors, a cursed 302 (in a notchback 84 'Stang) a couple 300-6s and a 240-6.
Ford Broncos are mine and my son's passion. I have an '83 with a 300/3 spd OD trans with a lockright, which my son has adopted. I've owned an 89 Bronco XLT, an '05 XLT and finest vehicle I -ever- owned was a 94 Eddie Bauer Bronco, which I bought new.
My son's project, which is nearly completed is an ex-USFS '96 Bronco XL which he originally lifted and replaced the IFS w/a D60 with a Sterling 10.25 rear. It's now been changed back to the 8.8 rear, springpads swapped and an F150 front end with drop shackles. The truck's pretty well slammed and is unique in the sense that there were no 2WD Broncos ever made.
I'll post pics once it's on the road.
Anyhow, if anyone has any suggestions of where to find online info or publications pertinent to the FE and especially 360/390, I'd appreciate the direction.
Finally, as you can tell by the sig pic, motorcycles, specifically Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 Cruisers are a favorite pastime of mine.
My wife and I have spent many miles in the saddle and seen places we'd not have gotten to see otherwise.
If the roads are semi-dry and it's above freezing, you'll likely find me on one of them.

Thanks, it sounds like you've got a lot of experience and some pretty nice wheels over there!
I got goofy electrical problems with my F-100. The truck is up on jack stands right now. I'm in the middle of several big jobs: I'm doing the brakes with the help of another FTE member, I'm shorting out or fuse blown somewhere other than the fuse block and not making any progress, and the interior is gutted and I'm sanding, primering, seam sealing, painting etc. to eventually have a solid, comfortable interior.
The end result should be pretty good! Stay tuned; I will put up a few pictures later on.
