What type of coolant to add?

At 60K miles on my 04 6.0 TD F350, my factory coolant is a little low, and I cannot figure out what type of coolant to add. I drew some out to try to tell the color, but its faded and I would only be guessing at the color.

Any help will be appreciated.

Its called ford premium gold, its actually gold colored (looks like PEE lol)

Just remember when topping off, the MIN line on the jug is the new MAX line. Do not fill it above the MIN line!

You can also use Zerex GO-5 sold at Napa for 10.99 a gal. for concentrate or 50/50. Same stuff as the Ford Premium Gold.

Thanks Guys! I guess I cannot use the PROLINE ORANGE I bought at Pep Boys.

Next Question....at what interval does the fluid need to be completely changed out? I though it was 100K miles but now I am confused.

Thanks again.

5 years or 105,000 miles whichever comes 1st. Ford recommends flushing system with VC-9 iron cleaner 1st and then with distilled water 4 or 5 times prior to filling with a 50/50 mix.

<!-- BEGIN TEMPLATE: ad_showthread_firstpost_start --><!-- END TEMPLATE: ad_showthread_firstpost_start -->Just finished flushing the cooling system doing it the Ford recommended way as per post by cheezit and the 6.0 mechanic at the local dealer. Cost break down as listed;

2 qts. of motorcraft Iron Cleaner and 1 T-stat "O" ring = $63.73
4 gal. Zerex GO-5 coolant from Napa = $45.63
10 - 2 1/2 gallons containers of distilled water = $20.00

Total = $129.36

Ran the iron cleaner with distilled water thru the system for a 20 mile freeway drive. Came home, drained and removed t-stat and flushed 5 times with distilled water. Water coming out at the end of the 5th flush looked as good as the water going in. Installed T-stat with new "O" ring and added 3 3/4 gal. coolant. This is a little extra to compensate for the coolant filter which I installed a new filter after the flushes. Drained 1st thru rad. petcock, then lower rad. hose and then left block plug. Repeated this procedure 5 times. Hope this helps anyone contemplating doing their own coolant flush. Local dealer couldn't answer whether they used distilled or tap water so decided to do it myself. Glad I did. Now I can R&R the air filter in about 10 minutes. Piece of cake once you have a procedure. Doing the flush the way I did it will take most of a day so do not attempt it if you are in a hurry.

I would recommend installing a coolant filter after you flush out the system. Can save you problems down the road. Well worth the money and easy install.

OK...you guys have convinced me to flush, change fluid, and install coolant filter.

I have looked for the post by cheezit with detailed instructions but have not been able to find it. Could someone give me a link to it?

Since my Oil Guard bypass takes up the space next to the passenger side battery, I am planning on ordering the frame mounted coolant filter kit. Any comments on this?

Thanks

I found this hope it helps!! I did mine without removing the T-stat. Just let it heat up to temp in between flushes so T-stat opens and leave heater on to flush out heater also.

4 gal. Zerex GO-5 coolant from Nappa = $45.63

Total = $125.36

Tom, another spot could be behind the grille attached to the core support. Check out my albums to see where I positioned my oil bypass. I'm just down in Moyock, if you ever want to get together to compare notes, give me a shout at powerstrokediesel@embarqmail.com , Tom W.
