What is you opinion on the ESP

I did not get an ESP when I bought my truck, but I have been looking into it as a new level of insurance. I would just like some of your opinions of Ford vs third party vendors ESP. I know I can get the top of the line ESP from Ford for 84 months for $1,300. I would like to know your opinion on this idea. The only time that I really used an ESP was with an Expy with bad transmission and that would of been about $5,000 without it.

Thanks for the responses in advance.

I believe in the extended warranties partially because it make me feel better. This is a brand new body style and transmission with lots of new electronics. Seems like a cheap way to feel warm and fuzzy to me.

I bought mine from fordwarrantys.com (cheapest place I could find and a lot ($800) cheaper than the dealer). I trust Ford will be around for the next 7 years - not sure about the others.

I know the Ford ESP is transferable, but check on aftermarket ones. If you decide to trade/sell the truck, that's a big selling point... "still under warranty".

The Ford ESP's are transferable and if you trade it in they prorate what you have used and refund the rest back to you.
There is a $75.00 fee for transferring or cancelling.

Thanks, that is what I was thinking also.

If your going to get the extended warranty then the Ford ESP is the best way to go in opinion.

I believe you'll have to pull the trigger before you reach 3 years or 36K on the odo. Remember, the ESP price is negotiable.

I wouldn't even consider anything other than a Ford ESP. Too many of the aftermarket companies try to wiggle out of repairs that they lead you to believe are covered. Check with Ed (partsguyEd). He's super to work with and is a site sponsor here.

No problem. FWIW, I got the Premium Care ESP on my truck right before the factory warranty ran out. It's great extra protection in my opinion and of course, having a 6.0 diesel, I wasn't about to take any chances. Luckily, I've not needed it so far but it's a little extra comfort knowing that I'm only looking at a $100 deductible for any covered component / repair.

I have some time on the factory, but I also like having the extra protection afforded in this plan. I pulled the trigger last night and got the Premium also for 84 months/100,000 with a $100 deducible for $1,275 as they gave me a $185 discount for getting by the 11th. I was worried that something could/would go wrong as soon as it got out of warranty and I was stung by Nissan's plan of nothing.

Now I will have to get the GT one in about 6 months.....

Sounds good Scot. I'm weighing my options and strongly considering the 2011 GT since the 5.0 is back!

I just bought a ESP policy and did it online, they gave me a discount via an email and sending me a Ford credit card with the first charge being the total amount for the ESP. I will buy them whenever a big ticket item has been purchased ever since we bought a 1986 BWM 2002 used and got a ESP on it. Well to make a long story short, within 60 days the engine blew the crank shaft a $2900 repair. It cost me $100 deductible and $1200 for the policy, I think I won that one. Note the Ford ESP policies start from day of "in service" so you can purchase at any time up to 36/3yrs for the discount after that they may look at case by case with higher prices. I think I got that right. Chris

That's where I got mine Ken. Great folks to deal with. At the time, I didn't know that Ed was selling them or I might have tried him too.

Actually, there is a $0-deductible with the extended warranty...but there are way more restrictions on what it covers. For example, my blown CAC boots and clamps were not covered nor was a leaking gasket/seal on the secondary fuel filter housing. When you shell out the kind of money they charged for the 6.0 extended warranty, you think you're covered. But, when Ford says "no," it can be a dissappointment. On the other hand, with turbos, injectors, and labor being so costly; it can pay for itself--mine didn't.
