Anybody ever try these coils?

ACCEL 140032 Super Coils 1998-2004 Ford 4.6 5.4 6.8 (8):eBay Motors (item 370316461531 end time Jan-12-10 17:48:58 PST)

I was wanting to change plugs and was figuring it was a good as time as any to try these out? I've got about 75K on my 5.4. Probably a little premature, but was thinking what the hell. Are any of these better than stock, or just a waste of money?

Or these...

I have not tried either one, but for what it is worth, I have read that most folks weren't happy with the Accel coils. I don't know about the MSD. Go over to the modular (6.8 or 5.4) forums and do a search there. I'm sure you will find some answers. I favor the original Ford coils. I have changed a few and they are fine.

Coming from the Lightning community, stay with the stock COP's. They are better than anything out there with the possible exception of Weapon X coils.

Thats what I was figuring after a little more research. They say ford did a good job with the cop's. What are the weapon x all about?

Ford : WeaponX Performance, High Performance Equipment

It's been over a year since I've been plugged into the L scene, but Weapon X was gaining a lot of praise by some of the guys who were using them, unlike the Accel, MSD, and Granatelli COP's which were proven time and time again to be unreliable and not NEARLY as good as OEM COP's.

The Weapon X's don't seem to be any more $$$ wise than the OEM COPS, either....Any big advantage to them, Stewart?

Can't say for sure, Bob. Not sure if there's any empirical data showing they are better than OEM other than some higher powered Lightning owners being very happy with them.

If I remember correctly, the resistence was supposed to be lower than OEM, allowing a more consistent voltage delivery, which created only slight voltage differences between cylinders. Supposedly less difference than OEM.

Something like that wouldn't really be a huge factor for "standard" output engines, but it becomes more crucial for high performance, built engines pushing the envelope.

That being said, there were also a lot of high powered Lightning's with built engines still using OEM coils.

That sums it up pretty well, Stewart.

Thanks.

If those are indeed the genuine Motorcraft COPS, then they are a steal.....

Checking PartsguyEd.com (a supporting vendor here) website, it looks like he's got COP's for $50 bucks.

www.partsguyed.com

That's for a 2000 Excursion. I also checked for my '99 Lightning and the price was the same.

I'm gonna PM Ed and ask him to confirm the price.

I dunno. I paid around 80 bucks for a replacement COP at my local dealership (full price, not discounted) for my '99 Lightning when it spit a plug a few years back.

$79.99 doesn't seem like too much of a deal.

Now the price in the link in my above post seems like a great deal!

I sent the guy on EBAY an email asking if they are ford factory ones or aftermarket. I'll let you guys know what he says. $79.99 plus $10 shipped ain't bad if they're factory.

He says they're aftermarket. Is that a good buy, or should I just leave the aftermarket ones alone?

$79.99 appears to be for 8 of them, not 1. But now it looks like that they are not OEM Ford, but are indeed aftermarket. I wouldn't really want to trust the aftermarket ones at any cost. I camp a lot and have my wife and kids with me and do not need them failing somewhere 50 miles from civilization....
