Exclamation Ford Transit Connect - only 7,000 sold so far

DETNEWS | Weblogs | Autos Blog See this article in the Detroit News date 7 Jan 2010.

It mentions only 7,000 have been sold in the US so far. I drove across the country in October & only saw one dealership that had any on display. I did not see a single one on the road. The web sites for my local Ford dealers (NE OH) have no links to the Transit Connect, you have to call or email the dealership to learn if they have any in stock.

Strange, here in Los Angeles our local dealer has 6 of them displayed prominently, I haven't really been watching to see if they are moving them though.
In addition I have seen probably 20 or so getting around the roads - that sales figure really surprises me, but given the nature of the truck it isn't surprising that the sales are in urban areas.

In October Turner Ford in ABQ had a dozen on display, and I was told they had already sold 6. I drove 3000 miles across the USA that month, and that dealership was the only one of many I passed that had any TC's on display. I rechecked a couple of my local dealers since I posted, and they now have TC's in stock, linked from their websites, which was not the case a few days ago.

Spitzer in Cuyahoga Falls Ohio had a few, I've seen maybe 2-3 on the road.

I drive by that same dealership about once a week, haven't seen any there so far. I'll keep my eyes peeled.

It's been awhile since I have been by there, but I know when I went there in November looking for parts they had one sitting out front.

Finally many of the NE OH dealerships are starting to mention the TC on their websites (which wasn't the case just a few months ago), so I expect it is becoming available nationwide.

I see them almost daily in Chicago. Probably a lot more in the big cities.

Local dealer in the Detroit area had only one a few months back, but they now have a little row with about 10 Transit Connects. I'm guessing that it has taken a while to ramp up production and ship them to the US in any numbers. Since winning Motor Trend's truck of the year award, I suspect we'll see even more cropping up.

My uncle bought the first one here in San Antonio. Not exactly the first choice for me. But I have seen a few more on the road now.

I saw at least 10 at Mike Davidson Ford in Jacksonville, Florida. I've also noticed 3 or 4 on the roads around town.

wisconsin

i live... well, lived, lol about 50 miles north of Milwaukee wi, and there EVERYWHERE here... the dealership in Fond Du Lac, 20 miles west, has like 4 or 5. i now live very close to Madison, and they are all over there as well... there really a cool idea... if only they would make a longer wheel base model and offer the 2.3L duratorq diesel available in europe... but the duratorq is a whole other rant that i will not get into hear... i will simply state that the EPA can suck my left ********... lol... well, that, and 40-50 mpg ranger, or focus... think about it for a minute

can't wait to get one of those engines shipped here... but not until i have enough Spotted Cow to help with the headaches... lol

but the longer wheelbase model would open up the opportunity for hauling motorcycle's, among many other things...

Bloomberg.com states sales in the USA were 8,834 in 2009.
It also mentions trucks are more profitable per unit sold than cars, currently the manufacturer makes 6-8% on each. It states Ford does not plan to manufacture the Transit Connect in the USA.

Crossroads Ford in Cary, NC had a TV ad on today that said they had over 400 Transit Connects in stock.

I have seen quite a few around here.
