Cool CAC has a small amount of oil Normal or not?

Fellas I'm in the middle of replacing the Radiator.

After it was removed I set it on the garage floor and noticed this afternoon there was a 1/2 cup of oil on the floor from the inlet port.

Inspected the upper hose on the truck and found a teaspoon sitting in the tube.

Should I pull my gun or just call it a bitch slap?

Is this normal??

Much appreciated as I'm head down into reassembly until I hear otherwise.

Thought it should be a dry system??!!

Holding my nuts with both wrenches here!

Thanx in advance.

Denny

Damn Denny. I think you know how to spin a wrench better than I do. Good to hear everything is going well.

Is that oil found in the CAC the same oil that would be caught by a catch can I wonder?

It would have been caught by a catch can or as it's known the CCV mod........there's two ways to do this...open system that vents to atmosphere.......only problem with this method is..your truck stinks and smoke can be seen coming from the underneath wherever ya ran the hose to........
I went with a closed loop system......CCV vapor is routed through a canister, through a filter that removes the oil and then back into the intake. You can buy these...not sure on the price....I made mine hmmm for...heck i can't recall lol...but it was fairly cheap.

I have the wife out there sucking on the tube now to see what's actually in it, but I'll have to xray her for results. (Yepper)

Good to hear residual is a normal.

I'll pair everything up and see what transpires.

BTW, I watched many utubers do this and it is easier than u think. Radiator replacement is nothing to cringe over. Make notes, tag the base and you'll score.

SERIOUS UPDATE,

All the research, I gleaned a buttoad from just creeping other forums on the 6.4.

I thought we were it but.............

What I gather from all else is to cap and run. At that point your truck doesn't develop dimentia and you can wipe your own *** instead of someone elses bloodied up mess because they failed.

My personal take is to use the blocks and watch my *** like a puppy ****ting razor blades.

I got this.

New rad is in and it's on the road.

Everything went very smooth.

If your replacing the rad, there are square rubber boots that fit on the bottom side of the tanks as shock absorbers. After placing the new one in it felt sloppy so I pulled it back out and sure enough they didn't come with the new so I had to pull them off the old one. After that it was a pretty strait forward task.

After I filled it with distilled water only, I put miles on it (just to make sure I wasn't pissing away ELC cash if I had a leak).

I am not losing a drop anywhere EXCEPT, when I put the heater on high to rid the air and purge the system, I get a pretty steady drip out of the bottom tube of the Heater core area. Is this normal???

I never noticed it before. Anyone experience this?

I'm thinking the ac runs even with the heater on high so it's condensation. Sound normal??

Thanx,

Denny

Yes, the CAC gets oil blow by. It can seep through the upper blue hose (shorty at the turbo) OR more common that upper blue hose has cracks in it on the bottom from flexing. I thought I had a large oil leak from either the main seal, or head gaskets or intake or something, but due to the cant of the motor, it was just dripping from the CAC tube and running back and out and off the bottom. All that to say, not only is it normal, I think a lot of times an oil leak may often be misdiagnosed from some other source when it is actually from this blue hose. Hope this helps someone, someday.

****EDIT*****
I thought I was in the 6.0 forum.... This applies to a 6.0... Don't know a thing about the 6.4... Sorry, can't figure out how to delete either.

My head was kinda tilted sideways. Thanx for the input tho.

All is good. Just did a 300 mile pull with the 5'r on some pretty steep grades and am only impressed with the power and comfort (and shhhhhhhhhhh quiet compared to my 7.3)

Popped the lower cac and had a mist of oil, so I'm not really concerned as I was earlier)

Thanx everyone for they're contributions.

Denny
