If you step on the clutch and put in gear does it stop immediately?
My m5od has some input bearing noise
Check your fluid-easy to do-the m5od has a known slow leak tendency

Does sound like input shaft bearing.

Mine does it. 89 4.9 M5R2

If I push the clutch in and put it in gear - as long as the truck is standing still - there is no noise.

Once the truck starts to move (even with the clutch in) or I let off on clutch the sound comes back.

Have noticed that the higher the gear the less noise it makes.

I'm just living with it.
