Divorced transfer case means that it is not directly bolted to the transmission. There is a driveshaft between the trans and the transfer case.
Low pinion front axle means that the pinion assembly extends beneath the centerline of the axle tubes...in layman's terms, the yoke will be closer to the ground than it is to the frame.

The FAQ sticky on the top of the 73-79 forum says hiBoys were stopped at Y80,001 but I believe that to be an error and the quote above correct. I have a Y60,xxx and I am almost certain it is not a highboy! Although the frame rails do not bend in or out (just up and down). It was manufactured 5/1977, BUT I have no cross member at the front, the TCase is married, gas tank at the rear of the frame, unsure of springs at the moment. Would you all agree that it is not a highboy?

NOT a High Boy
This Y20,001 serial number break inre to High Boys has been typed here on FTE by myself well over 100 times. Every time this question comes up, I have to type the info again.
When looking up parts for 1977 F250 4WD's in the '73/79 truck parts catalog, there are two specific serial number breaks.
Before Y20,001 for High Boys. From serial number Y40,001 for non High Boys.
All 1967/77 High Boys have a divorced transfer case, rear frame rails that are 33 1/2" apart.
1977 F250 4WD's from serial number Y40,001 and 1978/79 F250 4WD's have a married transfer case, rear frame rails that are 37 1/2" apart.

20,000 vehicles may seem like a large number without any F250 4WD's being assembled, but it isn't a large number...at all.
Consider that those 20,000 vehicles represented all the trucks (B/C/CT/CTL/F/L/LN/LNT/H/W and etc), not just F250's, all the Bronco's and all the Econolines, because...
All these vehicles used the same serial number sequence.
1977 Truck, Bronco & Econoline serial number ranges: O00,001 thru Q99,999 & X80,001 thru Z25,000.
