Rough running at cold temps

I started noticing that on cold days (when I dont have it plugged in) my truck will run really crappy for about 1/4 mile or until it shifts into 2nd gear at low speeds. The vehicle idles fine but it only runs with low power in gear going down the road. After it shifts it runs fine.

I live in Socal where the temps are in the 40's at times. I do not have any new flashes, but am skeptical about the infamous FICM killer flash that was out a while back. Does anyone have any ideas what I can do or look at?

I use 15-40 oil and have an EGR delete. I am pretty sure it is not that.

I am not ruling out injector stiction, but am leaning more toward the inductive heat flash....but I don't want to kill my FICM with it.

Thanks
Joe

Hey Joe by the way there's a new flash out that suppose to be alot better than the inductive heating flash. Mine to runs a little rough here when I don't plug it in but smooths out like u said. If I don't plug it in man it sounds like it's pissed on first start up. Let's out a giant roar then starts whistling away. Anywho just wanted to let ya know there's a new flash out.

I got the new flash and it did help alot with the cold start. It has been -10 here and It starts with no problems stumbling or anything. If you don't want to get the flash I would switch to 5w40 syn oil that should help alot.

Hi Shawn....long time no talk buddy. Hows the RR, AirDogand all the other mods you did working out for ya? Thanks for the information.

9228.....I think that was my next plan of action. It is due for a LOF. I am worried it is some other problem, but with the cold weather (40's...I know boohoo in SoCal) it started the weird morning routine. I will try the oil first and if not then to the dealer I go for a new flash. What do they run about 100.00 for non warranty trucks?

Thanks
Joe

I just switched to 5w-40 synthetic last week and it helped my cold starts a lot. Starts at 20F now like it used to start at 40-50F.

For the most part she runs great! This is the first time this cold start issue has reared its head. I'll try the oil swithch and report....hopefully it gets cold again (sorry to all those in 0+ degree weather) it has been 75* in SoCal and its January (I know boohoo)

Thanks for the help
Joe

Hey,
I was experiencing very rough starts as well on cool mornings (40-50 degs). Yes i know thats not cold. I had been using Rotella 15w40, I switched to Rotella 5w40 synthetic it really helped. Tomorrow will be the test, highs have been in the mid 20s for about 4 days now and I haven't started or plugged the truck in since Sunday. Hopefully she wont buck and roar that bad, we'll see tho.

Truck stills runs great (knock on wood). Headed to crested butte Colorado next Wednesday from Spokane Washington for a few days of snowboarding then back to Oklahoma. Hope the ole girl does it with flying colors. Good to hear from ya. I haven't been on here too much lately myself.

Thanks

Shawn
