high and low beams.. together?

Hey guys! Sorry if this has been covered, but i didnt have much luck with a search. Ive seen headlight relays for GMC's that make the low beams stay on when your lights are on bright. To my knowledge there is nothing like this made for fords. My question is, does anybody know of a way to "rewire" the dimmer switch or rig it up so the low beams are always on? Can it be done? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Yes it can be done.
All it takes is a 30 amp relay from the auto parts store and a little wire and some know how.

In Chevys there are two headlight sets (4 headlights). One for set high beam and the other for low beam. With the electrical change in the chevy, you are running 2 sets of lights, one filament in each bulb, total four filaments.

Fords have one set of headlights. Each lamp contains two filaments. If you were to make the same change in the Fords you would turn on four filaments, two in each bulb. The bulbs are designed to run with only one filament. I don't know how many minutes or seconds the bulb would last with both filaments on. Since I use $25 headlight bulbs, I've never tested to find out!

Right about an hour actually. I went through two sets of bulbs in two days, said enough is enough and rewired my lights again so now the DRLs shut off when the high beams light up.

THanks, now I don't need to experiment! My Silverstar Ultra bulbs cost about $50 for the pair. Sorry you had to find out the hard way.

Be careful.

You could start a fire, melt your fixture, or pop your bulbs! The product discussed is called "KC HILITE QUAD BEAM CONVERSION KIT". Our trucks are DUAL headlights.

You don't need to find yourself miles from home and have all your headlight filaments (right/left/high/low) burned up at once. THis is a saftey issue.

BTW the '05 Ram is a QUAD headlight, the Chevy is a QUAD headlight, Fords are DUAL headlights.

I think im willing to risk it. If i blow my bulbs that'll just give me a reason to buy some new better quality bulbs. Kinda win-win situation for me i guess.

I rewired my truck in this fashion about a decade ago and I've never had an issue with bulbs burning out nor the housings melting. I did wire up a bypass switch on my overhead console so I can enable or disable this at will because of both high and low beams are on simultaniously, you have no flash-to-pass feature. When you pull the stalk towards you (92-whatever) both high and low illuminate for flash to pass.

I live in NJ, I actually need that feature quite a bit ;-)
