So in other words it is the case. Green antifreeze without an additive is harmful to this and many other diesel engines.

My truck has gold colored antifreeze and my other diesels use the reddish purple antifreeze because of this problem.

Umm...truck was towed to Ford because it wouldn't start. Several weeks later they called and said that these pictures were what they found.

No, they will just foam more and also the gold has rust inhibitors that extend the life. I guess it would be equivalent to adding Water Wetter or other additives to your coolant that serve the same purpose.

Sorry if I missed this, but what was Ford's reason foir denying the warranty claim? We have to PROVE it was their fault to get warranty work done? If I have documnentation on proper maintenance, isn't the burden of proof on the dealer/manufacturer for denying warranty (even to the point the would have to have some proof of "abuse or misuse?)?

No solid reason has been provided yet just that they asked if the truck was dunked underwater. Now that the Ford higher ups are involved it is wait and see.

So the dealership has said that engineering told them to go ahead and replace the motor. No official approval on the warranty yet, but it's a really good sign.

hands up to ford and to you for protecting your consumer rights. Keep us posted as to results please, time in shop and how they will warranty the new motor in particular. I really didnt think they would walk away from this one.

OK, obviously that is water in the piston, not antifreeze of any kind.
Even antifreeze with a low freeze rating like -10 will only slush up at -35, not turn rock hard and split steel.

The coolant in the truck I'm sure is good to -50 before it even thinks about slushing.

Where did you get your fuel from?? I know that a lot of fuel used in the industry i work in (oil/gas) especially from UFA has a lot of water in it (i know it sounds outrageous). A lot of dyed fuel used on the rigs is horrible fuel, i have taken samples and put them in our centrifuge and you can see the separation of water and fuel. It was very small but it was there.

Water will not compress so if there's no air, or very little, in the cylinder on the combustion stroke somethings got to give.
