Wiper Not working?
1997 F250 w/ 4.6lt. auto 4x4. In the snowy weather today. The wipers were frozen to the windshield this morning. I scrapped them free & all was ok & the wipers worled. Later I went to use them & could hear the wiper motor moving, but the wipers did not move? I also got out & moved the driver's wiper by hand & the pass side one also moved at the same time by hand (so they are still linked together).
I'm guessing the linkage may have come off the motor? Too cold & windy to do it outside right now. But any advise on what to look for? I'm guessing the wipers & black plastic cowl cover need to come off to get to the wiper linkage?
Any BTDT advise would be greatly appreciated
Happy New Year!

Same thing happened to me. You have to remove the wiper arms before you remove the cowel. Use channelock plyers to pop off the wiper arm. Cowel is affixed by screws and clips. Three bolts hold down the linkage. Inspect the linkage for any broken parts. When removing linkage remember the angle at which you removed it as there isn't very much space. Remove and install linkage with wiper motor attached to linkage. A new wiper linkage(transmission) cost me $187.00 Cdn$ including taxes.

It could be that the bottom arm has come loose from the linkage assembly. After you remove the wiper arms and the cowel, feel around underneath the linkage for free moving pieces. It may be possible to snap it back onto the linkage without removing it. It isn't fun to replace the linkage due to the tight space restrictions. I will warn you though that if this is what it is... it will happen again and again.
