BUT the VIN is also hidden on the body too. As soon as something looks out of place (missing VIN, altered VIN, different rivets, on and on) you have opened up a whole can of worms. If whoever inspects the vehicle has to find the hidden VIN because something is not right, they will go through it with a fine tooth comb.

I called the guy, he said bring both the titles, we'll get it inspected, it'll be a new title under the vin that's in the cab. Emissions will be whatever is in the truck at the time of inspection. No emissions in this county anyway. It'll be titled as a 2010 custom vehicle. No problem at all. Glad I didn't mess with the tag! This was my grandpa's truck, and I'm doing it for my brother, so I want it to be %100 legal.

While I have no problem complying with the simple rules, I honestly don't get all the fuss, I'm just a country boy fixin' an old truck. As long as they get the tax money, the damn vampires should be happy. It's not a quarter million dollar Porsche, it's a $250 Ford. It's worth more as scrap metal than as a functional machine.

You should know by now, if you ever write a check in the store, they want 20 id's? And that thing you have to walk through to get out the door that always goes off with a alarm? When you take something back, you have to wait at least 3 days before they will give you your money?
It's the society we live in today. Stolen vehicles are big money. The vin mess is an effort to control the thieves.
Also do you remember the bombing in the parking lot underneath the world trade center? They found some little piece of the rental truck in the rubble, and it had the vin on it. They were then able to trace where the truck came from and figure out who was involved. If your truck was ever stolen, and involved in a crime, it helps them identify the vehicle and where it came from.
Because of this, the regular people who are just trying to fix up an old truck have to suffer a little bit. But it looks like you have some good people to work with.
