Cell Phone/GPS Vent Mount

Has anyone used a vent mount for their phone or GPS in their truck? I'm looking at getting a universal holder to hold my phone most of the time and my GPS when needed but was curious how well they work with our circle vents. I tried one of the mounts with the spring loaded clip that a friend has and it barely fit on the vent and one of the tips popped off when I tried to remove it so I'd be looking at ones that have the clips similar to aligator clips.

Personally I don't like the idea of mounting anything in front of the vent. It blocks the heat or the cold air. It also either "roast" or "freeze" the equipment. I can imagaine it is not very good for the battery and the electronic.

I place my GPS on top of the dash right beside the rubber tray with it's own base (OEM Bean Bag). It never moves and easy for me to put it away when park. I normally put my cell pone in the cup holder of the arm rest. Easy to get to and good enough for blue tooth operation.

I did not really answer your question hope you don't mind.
