1985 F150 Rear "Skinny" Bumper
My 1985 Ford F150 XLT Lariat came with a stock, rather "skinny" chrome rear step bumper with rub strips. I have the 1985 F-Series brochure, and it lists the "skinny" step bumper as a 2,000 lb rated bumper, with an optional argent (silver) heavy duty, thicker rear bumper rated at 5,000 lbs. also available.
I have noticed that the stock 1987-1991 chrome step bumper looks very similar to the optional argent heavy duty bumper offered in 1985, except the 1987-1991 bumper is chrome with rub strips. Does anyone know if the chrome bumper from 1987-1991 is a bolt-on replacement?

The Frame width is the same...
So if you used the brackets from the other bumper, it shouldn't be a problem. Only perhaps drilling for the new bracket holes.
That, "Skinny" bumper was used 1980-1986 F-series and Bronco, so finding an exact replacement may not be too hard to do. Although finding one in good condition may be hard. I'm still looking for a "good" chrome contour bumper that came standard on my 1981 Explorer.
