Fixed it for you. It could have been dealer installed on a truck, but I kinda doubt it.
The passenger car hood where this ornament attached is a different shape (it's almost flat) than the truck hood, which slops downwards.
Which means if this ornament was mounted on a truck hood, it would point down, instead of straight ahead.
Ford did offer two different accessory hood "birds" which were...as Bill said, dealer installed.
The most commonly seen is chrome, and has been reproduced by a member of this forum.
There was another genuine Ford hood bird available. It was an eagle made from RED plastic, it mounted on a chrome base. The bird's wings are upright.
I have seen exactly one of these ornaments, it was NOS. I found it at a defunct Ford Dealer in Matador TX in 1985.

Do I still have it? Does a bear schiess in the woods?
Bill, if you had spent 30 years drivin' around the US, stopping at every FoMoCo dealer, antique shop/junkstore/junkyard along the way, you'd have a ton of (cool) junk, too.
Speaking of old junk, all the Richfield gas stations used to have a weathervane on the roofs, with their eagle on it.
Try and find one a those today. Try and find one of the only two END ROUTE 66 signs.
There was one in Chicago on Wacker Drive, t'other was in Santa Monica CA where Santa Monica Blvd. dead ended at Ocean Av. I used to live in Santa Monica.

Have him swing on by, make sure he wears galoushes, he'll need them to wade thru all the old junk I have 'round here. And...there'S more than just auto related stuff.
Have so much junk, that the mice have round shoulders. If it collects dust...I collect it.
Bill: When I started buying this junk in the mid 1960's, most Ford nuts were not interested in any of it, as they were into Model T's, A's and 1932/34 flatheads, so...
Not not only was there a lot of it around, but the prices were low buck.

Just got my original pot metal hood bird today. I was skeptical because it was cheap and pitted....but is very nice and shiny...and a great original.
I now have 2 repros and 1 original and 1 original with a broken wing.
I was going to rechrome the bird....have a chrome shop that I invested in...(silent investor) and thought I would ask to chrome it....but it shines nice and is very cool old vintage looking.
I will mount all 4 on 4 of my trucks this summer.....winged fords!!! LOL
