steering wheel problem.

I have an aftermarket grant GT steering wheel on my f100 from the previous owner. The horn button sticks and the auto return for the blinkers are broken. also the wheel rubs the collum and squeeks when i turn the wheel, It is very annoying! so i was starting to look into aftermarket wheels and such. well i am in the process of removing the wheel and it will not come off... i removed the allen screws and slapped and yanked and no dice...is there a bolt under the horn button if so how is the horn button removed? it does not seem to come straight off. so if anyone has a grant steering wheel and can shoot me in the right direction on what to start with please chime in. also what are some good steering wheel options besides grant?

Brian.

Yes put back in the allen screws. Take a small flat screwdriver and pry the horn button off. Make sure to disconnect the battery. Once the horn button is off you will see why it is sticking (there is a large spring underneath it to return it). You will also see the rather large nut holding the wheel to the column. There are three screws holding the steering wheel to the mounting bracket. Take these off. Steering wheel comes off and your left with the small three legged star bracket that is bolted to the steering column. You will need a steering wheel puller to get this off as its is a compression fit. Pull the nut off and then hook up the steering wheel puller to get the bracket off. OR you could just buy a new Grant wheel you like and re-install using the same bracket. Or just fix the problems with your current wheel.

Oh and with the grant wheels, unless you install the adapter plate to make the blinker cancelers work they do not work

It shouldn't damage at all, there are little tabs on it designed to "pop" in and out, only thing else in there is a spring and the grounding disc with the wire attached to it. Worst case that would be what you damage but just be easy everything should be fine. If your horn doesn't work make sure the area it grounds to is clean. It works off of grounding three little "feet" to the inside of the steering wheel. If the steering wheel is a painted surface the kit gives you a foil like sticker to put on the inside to aid grounding

I run a grant wheel on my 75 -F100 4x4. To remove the horn button, disconnect the battery or the horn and I press it all the way down and turn it and it should come off. Otherwise do what Zak8tac said and it shouldn't hurt it. Mine also had the big nut and 3 small bolts holding it on. You will need a puller to get the inside piece off to access your turn signal switch. Probably the plastic cam piece is broken. I think most parts stores sell these. I replaced my whole turn signal switch a few years ago and bought it from the local ford dealership. I think it was around $60 then. For the squeaking I ground some metal off the cup piece that goes under the steering wheel. That is where mine was rubbing. I also cut the turn signal lever shorter and rethreaded it for more clearance especially when wearing gloves.

underneath the horn you will be able to count the splines. I however do not know what the number is off the top of my head.
