I just put on a 6 inch superlift suspension lift. I Am thinking more and more about a strait axle swap. Will this change my ride height at all? also will my drive shaft match up? also will my drive shaft match if I want to put a dana 60 in the rear? basically I want to turn my 89 f150 into an f350. is it worth the work?

 

I think it's worth the work, I'm in the middle of one now. I have an F-250, so I already have the leaves up front with the ttb, and I picked up a 77 F-250 straightaxle. The leaves make the conversion easier, but I still have to weld on new perches. A D60 should fit the rear of your truck no prob, but you should get a lift kit before proceding. Generally, you will lose about 1" of height in the front with the straight axle, but because of the cross member, you will have to lift about 6" to fit the axle. An axle from any late 70's F-150 or Bronco will fit your truck with minor mods.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 13-Nov-02 AT 07:24 PM (EST)]my front axle plan is a d60. since i have coils im going to weld on spring hangers and put on leavs and pretty much bolt on everything, i hope it will be easy, time consuming, but fairly easy.

id wait a while to do the swap though, 4wheel your truck with the newly added lift for a while first. ive had my lift on for almost a year now but have been planning the swap for almost just as long, take your time with it, get to know your truck as it is right now. youd be suprised at how well the TTB holds up. id only do the SAS if your REALLY going to be wheeling your truck, thats the reason im doin it.

 

 

im in the process of puttin a solid dana 44 under my 89 f-150 short box i was told the only difference is the spring towers gotta be lowered to clear the crossmember and a custom drag link that i see is now sold by broncograveyard.com any tips on the conversion would be appreciated and also would a np205 bolt directly to the tail housing of my 4x4 aod tranny thanks for any tips -jeremy
