I have a 1962 ford F-150. The original engine has beed replaced with a 289. But heres the problem. I have put three steering boxes in it it keeps takeing them out and I dont know why and I have ran out of places to get them for I live in the bonnies. Is there anyplace a guy can find parts for such a truck ? I want to restore it and finding parts can be hard like the crome and things. I have been thinking about putting the body on another chasse but I don't know what would work the best. I would love to make it into a 4*4. If someone knows what chasse would work the best let me know. Thanks Rick

Rick a couple of things, 1st if you have a 62 F150, and you can get documintation on the truck, get it because you have an extreemly rare bird there. That truck could be worth maybe $20 - 25000.00. I expect you are trying to put steering gears from later model trucks that are twin I-beam and have a different configuration, and could be causing your problem. A chassis through 72 could be a good choice for either 2X or 4X.

It seems to me that the 1962 F150 came with a 289 and a 6 speed trans. Do you have the original trans?

This one came with a 6 dont know the size , Mounted front and on the bellhouseing. And it was a 3 speed because it has the shifter on the colume. It has been modified to hold a 289 with a auto transmition that works quite well. Thansk fo the intress Rick

RTK 64-
you mentioned above that you needed a 62 grille- what state are you in? I saw one in a slavage yard from a distance today- don't know about condition, but it looked good from far off. It's in Arkansas. Let me know if you are interested and I'll go back, see what I can find out.

Well Nate my truck has a grill but its not a crome one......Thats what I want for it I live In Maine. I woulden't mind getting my hands on The steering box as well. But it has to be 62 I don't know if higher will work. My steering box is mounted almost under the cab and its sterring rod that normally attacess to the box is all one peice right up to the steering wheel. Thanks I'll keep watching Rick If you find something out let me know

Cb yes it does because mine is a unibody all one peice , cab and bed. They are definitly uniqe The stering box is very close to the cab side of the frame.....its almost straight up where newer trucks are more towards the front of the frame. Rick

I've got a junkyard close by ran by an old back of the woods redneck I'll check for you. He has atleast 2 unibody's out there. I'll check to see if either has a steering box and what he'll take for it.
