I had this same prob with my 2000 f350. On my truck it was the wiring harness for the overdrive button in the shift handle. It ran off the same fuse as the dash. If your OD button is in the shift lever, pull the shrouding off of the steering column. Check the wires that pass through the handle. Mine were frayed from bending back and forth when the shift lever was moved. It may be inside the handle where you cant see. I just unplugged the small harness for the OD button until I could get a different shift lever. It all comes as one. I got a low mile one at a bone yard for $10. Yours might be working for the time being because the wires are just right that they don't short. Change that fuse back and try unplugging this before the truck goes up in smoke. I pulled my hair out to find that short! Then again, if your OD button is not in the shift lever or it's a manual, this was all for nuthin. I hope you find it before it burns out something really pricey. Denny

i too suffer from this gremlin in the wiring i keep a box of 10 amp fuses in the center cup holder and a fuse puller i now can do it when driving it dose off and on for a day or two and then good for a week

( alos since my cruse control wont work )

i took a part the old fuse box and had it fix at an electrons shop

( burnt off the sodder trace on the C-board rate off ) $60.00 to have it fixed so i now have a spair one just in case .

Yep, I got a handshaker. I pulled the seat today and didnt find any cut wires there so i moved things around and put everything back with a 5amp fuse and it lasted awhile. Its something to do with the dome light. Everything works fine until it tries to come on. I was coming up the road with everything working and turned the dome light on manually and it popped the fuse. I can slam the back door on the drivers side and it will pop it everytime. I have a supercab by the way. I gonna try to search for a wiring diagram that shows where the dome light/cargo light wires run and I'm gonna unplug the the d@mn things. I already fried my fuse panel and that was pricey enough. Thanks for the info on the OD wires though. that will come in handy for somebody doing a search in the future that runs across this thread.

I would start from the dome light and work your way from there. If it happens when the dome light comes on that would be my starting point.

I have found the problem and fixed it. I borrowed a tool from my buddy with the shop. It finds shorts in wires. The wires had shorted out above the headliner going to the dome light. I replaced the whole wire from the light down to the floor where it goes under the drivers seat. The short was actually right in the bend of the cab in line with the latch for the back door.

I have a 2003 7.3L Crewcab. Just started blowing the #35. If you close all the doors the fuse will not blow. As soon as you open a door the fuse will pop. I read other readers have traced the problem to the dome light. I dropped the dome/map light assembly and unplugged the connector to the assembly. All is O.K. now, but the assembly is disconnected. I am going to get a new assembly because one of the bulb holders is cracked. I do not know if the light assembly is the problem or it is still somethhing in the harness, but it is running for now.

I was blowing fuse #35. it was the running board lights. The wires were pulled out of the fixture, hanging and shorting out. So simple to fix and so hard to find.
