trying to beef up the motor

Alright guys heres where i could really use your help -

i am looking at beefing up my motor a little. i think i want to do injectors, twin turbo setup. with the dp tunner right now i am putting our 35psi from my stock turbo, i want to know what i have to do to make sure my engine is safe and operating correctly if i go ahead and do the turbos and injectors. i was thinking stage 1 injectors and the sequential turbo setup. what are we talking here...head studs, etc.

Well twins is a very rare thing for a 7.3L it is difficult to do them and requires alot of money and or fabbing skills. If you just want to do stage ones then a 38R or H2E would provide plenty of air and be pretty responsive and alot cheaper. If your worried you can do an ARP head studs but since you have stock forged rods you should be good. Just have some good tunes and you'll be a happy camper.

Oh you won't with stage ones. I would beef up the tranny wither that be a BTS Tranny or just a John Woods Valve body.

Not trying to shoot you down on the twins it can be done but is really not needed these trucks are alot harder to do that on then a Cummins.

I agree with JD, a nice BB turbo with some injectors maybe hybrids and you'll have more than enough power.

Stage ones with the proper tuning can get you about 340-360ish a set of 200CC 80% nozzles I believe can be good for a bit over 410 on good tuning. I believe 238 hybrid injectors can get you about 450-500 with the right nozzles and the right tuning plus supporting fuel systems and tranny

what are the odds of my truck having forged metal rods. i have an 01, no idea when it was made in o1 though... i know 00 was teh last year they made them but i'm still hoping my truck was one of the lucky ones to get the last of the FMR they had in surplus before changing to the PMR. what are the odds of it having the fordged ones? also how likely are you to window the block if your running stage one injectors' probably capable of pushing 400hp max. plus tunes with an upgraded trans (valve body). and a 4 inch exhaust ? ( if indeed i have teh PMR's)

Its a square stock 5/16 fitting that you stick into the side of the block to check the inspection port.

Here is the engine serial number break down for the forged and powdered connecting rods. Check you engine serial number on the valve cover build sticker or you need to look at the block where the oil cooler is bolted to it .

Start of production thru 1425746 are Forged Rods
1425747 thru 1440712 are Powdered Rods
1446713 thru 1498318 are Forged Rods
1498319 thru final production run are all powdered

Or you can break them then you know what you have-Ha Ha-Just kidding
The reason for the break in serial numbers is a "test" run to be sure there were not any issues with the powdered rods. Once the process was production tested the powered rod process was used until the end of production.

Some additional info.

Did you find a van turbo for cheap? Why not a BB? Going from twin turbos to a van turbo, figured you'd at least get a BB? Just me.
What are you looking for as a goal HP-wise?
I tried stage 1's, but they didn't work right. Sent them to Ryan Casserly, got stage 2's back with his nozzles and highly reccomend them! I'm guessing I'm pushing 400rwhp, that's with a 38R and "old" Tony Wildman tuning.
The thing pulls like a freight train. I'm extremely happy with my setup. Just food for thought.

no twins on a PSD compound turbo's is what they use...one small feeding a bigger turbo getting up to 80 - 100 LB of boost..you need bigger injectors then stage1 and a lot of very high priced parts to make them last... lots of guy's on PSN run this set up with good luck.....
