At the risk of being a impetuous rabble-rouser, and this is just my observations from being in the hobby for 50 years, that there are at least two kinds of participates in the old vehicle pastime, most of us that buy way more then we ever sell and we are there for the love of the vehicles, and those who like the vehicles but it is a end to a means, love of money. I call these people “MERCHANTS” and we probably need them, just as long as you know who is who in the zoo.

So true. I buy way more than I need...but am always interested if it is what I want and the price is low. The merchants ask a price.....or demand a price...LOL
I tend to buy from guys who want to deal...not who want to add an addition on their house with profits from me......LOL.....I am too saavy for that

I like a good deal and watch for them, everbody says I'm lucky but I'm a trader and if I think I can make a buck or know where I can trade it for something I need then I burn-it-up till I get the job done. I really like the hunt and the chase but when you make the deal and come out on top thats even better, I love it when a plan comes together.

Buyer VS Seller

I would call myself a hunter. I hunt for the things that I know the value of and purchase them. Then I retail them to a customer who wants what I'm selling.

All this is done to pay for my panel (since I don't make enough for my hobby on job alone) (which is why it took 25 years) and to take my family on vacations or to fix up the house. Some folks make enough to live on other want more or want to do more than their income allows. Thus making it necessary to find other means to supply life with things it probably doesn't need but thinks it wants. Love that 3rd person.
