i worked on a friends '95 f150 years ago which had a simular problem, not saying yours is the same thing but the air bag module not only had a warning lamp it would also beep as a back up warning. if i remember right the airbag light was not on, i was working on it because it would not start (bad battery cable) but the low voltage on the system while tryiong to start it would cause the beep. everything turned out ok once we replaced the bat. cable

The chime is a backup for the airbag light. If the airbag light burns out, you would never know there was a problem with the restraint system until you ran into something and found out the airbag didn't deploy.

If the airbag light is blown out, which can be detected by the airbag module, it will sound the chime instead, letting you know there is a problem.

Turn your key to the 'on' position, and you'll likely find that the airbag light does not prove out with the rest of the warning indicators.

don't know if you have fixed this yet but my 01 will do it anytime I am moving if the brake fluid is low. so my question would be once you start driving does it happen and then stop when you stop...

The air bag light is an indicator that there is a problem with your air bag system. So if the light is on (or supposed to be on) then you have a problem and your bags will more than likely not deploy.

abriel68 does the airbag indicator light up when turning the ignition on ?? ( not starting the vehicle, just the ignition position) all the indicators should light up (prove out or bulb test) some indicators will time out and go off, others will stay on till you start the trruck

it's not an airbag module that is bad, your best bet would be to take this to a shop that can read the codes for airbags, I say this because unless you know what your doing you could accidently blow an airbag and first if it hit you while leaned on the dash poking some wire you could be seriously hurt and second if it does blow a bag and you luckily didn't get hurt then it would cost a lot of money it's worth the 80 bucks or so to take it to the dealer for them to tell you what it needs. then let them fix it or try your hand at it if you feel comfortable

I hate to resurrect an old thread especially being new, but I'm having this problem as well. My light does not come on with the key in the "key one engine off" position. Does this mean the light is burned out or do I have other issues? My truck is a 98 F250 5.4.
Thanks.

It probably means the light is burned out.

Thanks.
Had a repair done to my truck ford f150 2004 (ignition coil and sparkplug), mechanic reset the codes and then I started hearing 5 chimes for 5 times and every half hour it comes on again, as long as truck is running! No accidents ever and no problems before. Clockspring problem usually will have something else go wrong with it, like pwrstr or turn signal will go out as well. On mine everything works except the little airbag indicator light. Pulled the relay for the airbag and light came on, but auto windows wouldn't go down. Now I know the light is not burned out. I do not like, nor want an airbag = this is what seatbelts are for. Dealer wants $150 to diag. and then probably $800 - $1200 to fix problem, best case scenario they said low $500 to fix plus diag.
I am not paying for something I do not want, if I could rip the chimes out, I would. I found a fix for me. I pulled the little fuse for the airbag, module and cluster. I disconnected the passenger seat connector as well and problem solved! No ding and passenger airbag is no longer in use and for me, its a win win situation. Talked to my mechanic and said all will be fine driving without this fuse, because this is all this fuse does, as long as I know that even in an accident, that the passenger airbag will not go off.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->
