That is interesting now that you point it out--LMC says the ornament is for 73-79, Dennis Carpenter says 78-79, and NPD says 67-72 trucks. But I can't say I've ever seen any with on on there!
The hood on my 75 F250 Ranger XLT has a couple holes that seem to match the location of the mounts for this ornament, which led me (and the catalog descriptions) to assume it was the item missing.

This is pure Bull Spit! Try finding this ornament listed in any Ford truck parts catalog. You will not, because it ain't.

The pictured hood ornament was NEVER factory installed on any F Series truck.
For one thing...if it was installed after 1968, FoMoCo would have been in violation of Federal Law.
Part of the new Federal (NHTSA) Safety Standard Law passed in 1968 stated ALL hood ornaments had to be spring loaded, and without any projections.
Is this pictured hood ornament spring loaded? No it is not.
The following hood ornaments are listed in the 1973/79 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog:
D7OZ16850A .. Hood Ornament Kit with Ford Crest / D7OZ16850A replaced D3AZ16850A / Obsolete
Fits: 1975/79 Explorer / D8TZ16850A replaced D6TZ16850B & D5TZ16850A.
------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: To make matters even more confusing: In 1982, E2BZ16850A replaced: D8BZ16850A; D7OZ16850A; & D6TZ16850A.
E2BZ16850A = 1982/83 Fairmont and etc etc etc = Rectangular with 3 Lions and Chrome Wreath.

There were four different hood ornaments offered for 1973/79 F100/350's, this is NOT one of them. It's from a 1957 Ford Passenger Car.
Someone discovered it fits the hood, so it's listed in aftermarket repro parts sellers catalogs for all sorts of different year F Series trucks.
Of the four CORRECT hood ornaments, one says Explorer, the other three have the Ford crest on them with or without wreaths.
These stand up and are spring loaded and were also used on 1973/78 LTD's, 1977/79 LTD II's and 1978/83 Fairmonts.
You need to get your story right. This hood ornament is actually a fender top ornament from a 1963 1/2 Ford Falcon Sprint. There were some that looked similar to this on other cars, but this one in particulair is a true Falcon Sprint Fender top ornament. They were not factory installed on the trucks, they were a dealer installed part. If your truck has the 2 holes in the hood, this is the ornament your looking for.

You need to get your story right. Here are the facts from the 1960/64 Ford Passenger Car Parts Catalog.
Have you ever looked close at one of these Falcon fender ornaments? Prolly not.
There is a RIGHT and a LEFT. Since the fender isn't flat, each one is canted so it will sit upright following the contour of the fender.
There is no such thing as a specific 1963 1/2 Falcon Sprint fender ornament, either.
C2DZ16178A .. Right Fender Ornament
C2DZ16179A .. Left Fender Ornament
Fits ALL 1962/63 Falcon's.
Since these ornaments are right/left specific, and are canted right/left, which one was installed on any hood? NONE.
Don't believe me? Get one of these ornaments or the parts catalog and look for yourself.

I do happen to own a set of these, purchased them from Dennis Carpenter a couple of years back. I didn't order them from the truck catalog either, I ordered them from the Falcon catalog. They do not lean right or left, they are straight. The reason why I know this is because I own a 1963 1/2 Falcon Sprint convertible, the fender top ornaments on it are straight as well, and they are the original fender ornaments. I bought the replacement set not for the Falcon, but for my two trucks 1990 F-150, and 2004 Ranger, because I like the look of them on the trucks so much.
I have one for a 76-77 explorer in very good cond.It is blue and says explorer and is spring loaded. I would take $35 for and you pay shipping .I may be able to send some pics. tomorrow if you like.Just let me know.I also have alot of 73-79 ford truck parts. Thanks B.K.
