Four Wheel Drive

Our four wheel drive is not locking in. The dealer said it is a 4 wheel drive hub actuator? Has anyone ever heard of that. It is a $400 repair. We were thinking it was a vacuum line? Any help would be appreciated.

if it turns out to be the IWE solenoid that's on the firewall, that part only costs around $30-$40 and can be installed easily yourself. This is the most common failure along with a vacuum leak. The IWE actuators on the hub can be spendy to replace.

what do you mean by "not locking in"?

is the dash light coming?

or

nothing

Take a hammer and lightly tap your 4x4 shift solenoid on the back of the transfer case. that solenoid (motor) likes to freeze up. the hammer action will loosen it up and allow it to shift

hope that is the cause
