Glad I stopped in and saw this update. Just wrote my state Senator, who is on the Ways/Means committee.

Cheers,

I too wrote my newly elected senator who is on the Ways and Means. So far I've heard nothing but crickets.

Latest News - Senate Passes Bill

Good news everyone, I learned today that our bill, now known as S2213 "An Act clarifying the definition of commercial motor vehicles" has passed the MA Senate once again and is on it's way to the House of Representatives. This is all due to the great work by Senator Richard Moore and his staff who have supported this effort from the beginning.

Now we turn our attention to getting enough support in the House to get it to the floor for a vote. Rep Ryan Fattman has offered his willingness to support it with letters and anything else we need. As soon as I know what committee it lands in I'll post another update. Meanwhile, this would be a good time to make your local reps aware of this bill and ask for their support in getting it to a vote. The formal sessions end on July 31 so we don't have a lot of time left. (They do hold informal sessions after the 31st but I suspect it's harder to get someting approved then).

I hope everyone is having a good summer.

Steve

I just got an email back from both my state senator, Don Humason as well as my state rep, Peter Kocot. Both support the bill. I also had a nice give and take with Rep Ryan Fattman who took my statement and is going to forward it as testimony in support of the bill. Hope my bit helps...

Still shows up as stagnant on the bill's webpage. Bummer. I was really hoping it was a go this time. I contacted my Rep again recently and he said he'd look into it and was all for it but that's the last I heard.

Hey Steve,

Any update? Still shows as stagnant. I got pinched on mine a few years back and had to scramble to get it re-registered. A Friend of mine just bought a Dually for his camper and they registered it as a personal.

Wouldn't **** me off as much except that we have a landscaper around that has a fleet of 150's and 250's all SRW with the exception of his dump truck and he gets away with having 15 trucks registered as passenger with lettering all over them for the landscaping company. But because they are SRW and each person in the company "Owns" their rig they are considered private. I should turn him in, but thats just not my style.

Man, some days I just want out of this damned state.

I keep writing to my rep and Senator Fattman. They claim to want it to go forward but nothing ever happens. Very frustrating...

The lettering is enough to warrant commercial plates. I had a truck with a magnetic sign advertising my up and coming business. I was pulled over in Taunton MA and informed that just that sign made it a commercial vehicle and I could either remove the sign or register it as commercial. So each person "owning" the company vehicle is a crock of you know what.

What we need is officers to be trained to know the commercial laws and have the people who do this be held accountable. I have about given up and found a loophole that is in my favor in registering my dually commercially. There is no height restriction on commercial trucks other that the 13'6" I had an officer question me on the height of my dually, he looked into it called me back and said you are correct, a minor victory but still in my favor.
