Those old hoists take 30wt non detergent motor oil, not hydraulic oil.
Do you have a scissor type hoist?

I have an Anthony hoist on my Truck...I'm pretty sure it is older than the truck'
You will need to look on the bottom of the unit for a drain.....I haven't changed mine yet....So I dunno where it is.
.
With the bed DOWN you will need to drain it.
NEVER crack anything open with the bed up, It could come down and cut you in half.

Never put your body in between the bed and the truck frame, without a piece of pipe or some sort of prop that will hold the bed in the raised position should some thing go wrong.

In the following Pic you will see the fill plug on the top of the cylinder near the Ram.
You will Fill the Cyl. with the bed DOWN
You will need to do it from under the truck with the bed DOWN..I topped mine of to about a 1/2" below the fill hole...I don't have a manual but mine seems to work fine leaves the area above the plug for heat expansion.

Hope this helps ..BE CAREFULL.

Why do you need to change the oil? Does it have water in it or look milky? If it looks normal, it's probably just fine. All of my hydraulics (hoists, loaders, etc.) leak, so the oil gets changed sooner or later anyways. To change the oil, look for a drain plug or hose connection at the lowest point of the system. If it's moving slow, first check for proper oil level.......most likely the pump gears or piston rings are worn after all these years.......t/m

Yes, enough stress can not be put on staying out from under a raised box. Never get between a raised bed and the truck chassis or cab. My uncle did many years ago while working on my Dad's 52 F6 dump truck, without blocking and with no one around. He bumped the lever to release the pressure. It didn't come down fast, nor kill him. He was pinned there for several hours and his back never was the same again.

Yep couple months ago near me, two guys were going to pull the engine out of an old cabover, the Jack didn't work for the cab, so they tipped it with a forklift and propped it up.
One of the guys bumped the prop , the cab came down and killed one of them.

I see you joined a few years ago, but only have a few posts. We like all kinds of visitors here - daily users and once-a-year folks too!

One little thing I would mention. If you turn off the Caps Lock key on your keyboard, some of us old fogies with bad eyes can read your questions better and reply quicker. Typing in all CAPS in sometimes known as shouting - which I'm sure you are not doing. Typing is a pain, but give lower case a try and I bet you'll get used to it.
