Rear washer spray pattern

I guess the subject is really a question. Currently the rear washer spray on my 2004 Mountaineer does not have a pattern, more like a trickle. Plenty of solvent comes out, but in a stream down the rear glass. If timed carefully, I can get the stream to the bottom of the wiper path before it sweeps.

I tried using a fine pick in the nozzle to see if there was an obstruction, that had no effect. I have not tried removing the 3rd brake light assembly and blowing air through the nozzle yet, I hope to get to that this weekend.

Before I go to that work I wanted to check here to see if I should expect a spray similar to the windshield or if by design these thinks just cause a stream. Anyone have a similar model year that has a nice fan spray? This one's worked like this since I bought it in April.

Funny you say that. I nearly used the phrase "...pees down the rear glass" rather than "...stream down the rear glass."

I may have figured out the issue with the rear washer. I washed the truck this afternoon and decided to pull the rear washer out to see if anything was obvious. Fortunately something was. As I lifted the CHMSL assembly out of roof right away a kink in the hose was noticeable. The hose has a permanent kink in it, so Flomax may have been more accurate than I thought. I thought it had plenty of flow, but it's pretty obvious the flow would be reduced.

Since there is a lot of hose in the roof I just cut the hose at the kink and reattached. I also learned in the process that the CHMSL uses bulbs instead of LEDs like I figured it would. Seems like another future upgrade for me.

Of course since I'm **** and just washed the truck, I didn't want to try my fix yet. Since it's snowing outside I'm sure I'll have an opportunity to try it out on my way to work tomorrow.

There ya go.......what can I say!

I had a low flow/no flow problem ....WITH MY FRONT WASHERS.

One hose had come off causing a no pressure condition on the other side. Reattached it and it works great now!

Id say the bend in the hose IS your issue, no pressure after the bend.

Well, I just checked and the hose is fine, no kinks. I also ran the washer with the hose disconnected and it seemed to flow plenty. I blew threw the nozzle and it did not seem to be blocked. Maybe this this thing just has a bad pattern. It does more than pee a trickle down the window but it doesnt come close to "spraying" the back glass.

I had an opportunity to use mine tonight. It flows A LOT more than it did before, but it's still not a spray. It's more like a 4 inch wide river with sufficient quantity that it is VERY effective, much more effective than it was before. Even if the flow only makes it halfway down the glass before the wiper hits it, it is enough solvent to run the width of the wiper and clean the entire glass is a single pass.

I'm not sure what the spray is supposed to look like, but the way it is now is sufficient and effective.
