synthetic oil change

i am considering changing my truck over to synthetic. i bought it about 6000 miles ago when it had 93000 on it. previous owner used amsoil oil and i swapped it with 15/40 rotella because that is what was easily available. we moved from nc to tx and the oil change is due. i have always run synthetic in my gas burner trucks and cars and am considering it in my diesel. my question is how often do you change your synthetic and does it really make a difference over the dino oil? also what syntheric brand do you use and where do you buy it at? thanks

I've run Rotella synthetic's practicly my whole engine life, 132,000 now and I change it out about 8,000-10,000 miles. Running Schaeffers 15-40 syn blend now, good stuff but hard to find. I'd say go with the syn, you'll get a smoother running engine and extended drain intervals.

For cold engine starts, nothing beats having synthetic oil!

I use 0-40 Co-op oil, with good results so far. I change it every 10,000 kilometers.
I think once my supply runs out, I will be switching to 5-40 shell synthetic.

Rotella 5w-40 is usually found the cheapest at Wally World. Comes in 1 gallon containers. I have also found it at chain auto stores but for a few bucks more per gallon. I past one year (9000 miles - my truck is not a daily driver) on my oil and I will send in a sample to my oil lab at work for an oil analysis but I would be willing to be that it will come back clean.

I just purchased my 99.5 F350 back in Apr. Dont know what was in there at the time, nor time since the last change, so with the cold wx coming on wanted to change to 5/40 Rotalla synth (Wally World, $19/Gal).

Changed it last weekend, and it does seem to start easier and run a little smoother - but I s'pose that could all be in my head, too. Wasnt as cold this week as last week - we'll see what happens with the next big Arctic blast that comes thru.

I fully expect to be able to run 10k+ for change intervals.

Definitely makes a difference. Mine was noticeably quieter when cold after switching to syn.

And for me, no more romps. My truck was horrible before I switched.

Noticable difference. Just switched from dino Rotella to Syn Rotella- much less drap on start-ups and better protection... not to mention longer change intervals.... it's $19.00 gal @ WalMart-- hard to even get close to that price with any other syn oil..

Definitely makes a difference.

Just put in Rotella 5w40 synthetic the other day. Started right up yesterday, outside temp of 11* with no heater plug in.

Synthetic 5w40, Schaeffer flavor. Love it. Your truck will, too.
