Hey all! This is my question. My front axle is not engaging? transfer case is but not axle, doesnt seem to be a broken vaccum line, tho there is two lines going to acuator i follewd them up to firewall were it doesnt seem to be a problem. Im thinking a fuse or somthing not telling them to lock in ,I do not have owners manual so cant check fuses under hood, and www.fleet.ford.com is down cant get a copy of manual, fuses under dash seem good! thx to anyone that helps!! 1997 f150 4.2 manual tranny msof

I f you have a vacumn gauge, have someone sit inside the truck with it running and in park, and move the lever from 4H to 2H and see if you get any vacumn on either of the 2 lines coming of the actuator. You should be able to move the actuator. It may be just "froze" up. Take it off and see if moves freely with it disconneted from the linkage. Let us know

you can just pull the two hoses off the actuator and start the truck. vacuum will be on one of them, swith to 4 x 4, vacuum will be on the other. If not, check the hose routing back to motor. If you have vacuum on both, then stroke the actuator. You can remove, clean, check and reinstall. You can also put a short hose on the actuator and suck on the end of the hose and see it move.

Vaccum Hubs
If you have a vaccum gauge, check at the steering knuckle to see if you are getting vaccum. If you are, then aquire a hand vaccum pump with a gauge. Hook it to the spot where you took off the line on the knuckle. Usually it is a $60 seal that goes bad or the o-ring on the lock out itself.
