This is my 1st post on this fantastic site and I must say...it's nice to be here!

About 7 years ago I had a nice, solid 62 Unibody that I really enjoyed. At that time there wasn't a lot of information online about those old trucks. My Wife and I were getting ready to move out of state so I sold it to a fellow we attended Church Services with who had a small collection of Unibodies.

I called my old friend out of the blue on Monday to find he still had the truck. Although and he hadn't planned on selling it, he said he'd sell it back to me...woooo hoooooo!

Apparently he drove the truck from my house to his, (about 6 miles) and it's sat outside ever since. This was no show truck, but it was very solid and straight with no real rust I can remember and everything worked very well. Man, that old truck ran like a little tractor all-the-time.

I've never dealt with a vehicle that has sat this amount of time, so can you guys give me an idea of what this truck may need?

Here's what I remember about the truck:
1962 Ford F250
292 Y Block
4 Speed w/ granny low
Power steering, (I think)
Power brakes
Dana 60 rear, (I think)
Full factory gauges, (speedo, fuel, temp, volt, oil)
Two speed blower
Two speed wipers
Seat belts
Sliding rear bumper
Tool box build into side of bed, (similar to the later model Camper Specials)


I remember being told by the prior owner this truck was a dealer installed Camper Special?

Any information on this truck or sites to research for myself is appreciated.

Then someone might steal my truck!

Actually the truck is 4 states away and it's current owner doesn't get around too well, so I hate to bother him.

I should have it home in a couple weeks.

My Wife remembers the truck being difficult to steer, so scratch the power steering!

First off, there was never any such thing as a Camper Special until the 1965 models came out in August of 1964. no unibodys were ever camper equipped to the best of my knowledge...Power Steering wasnt an option on F100/250 trucks until 1966 model year as I recall...Power brakes was a mid year 65 model year addition to the option list as I recall..
rear bumpers were dealer installed as Ive come to learn from one wiser then I.

The bedside toolboxes were available ONLY on 64-6 Styleside double wall boxes. They were offered in both long and shortbed version though.

It doesn't have power steering, but I'm pretty certain on the power brakes and I am certain on the dealer installed sliding rear bumper and passenger side mounted toolbox.

I'll definitely post pictures once I get it home.

Can anyone tell me about the gauge package? I've not seen one with anything but a huge speedometer in the center and idiot lights.

I do appreciate the help. I've been scouring this site like a crazy man!

 

the center round speedo with the fuel and temp gauges on top[ eith the oil and gen lights at the bottom is the standard cluster on all of the 61-6 F100 to F350s that werent Custom Cabs. The 2 circular depressions on either side of the speedo were where other gauges...like a vacuum gauge were installed on the big trucks sometimes.

What the heck is a sliding rear bumper?

 

I've seen other posts on here with the sliding bumper. It telescopes to clear the camper where it hangs out the back of the bed.

I'm heading out to AL on Saturday and I'm very excited.

I purchased a truck, (99 Power Stroke) and trailer to get the F250 back home to MO. I'll post pictures of the set-up later on.

Here's the tow rig. For sale once I get back home!

 

Damn, It must be nice to have that kind of capitol.


Another thing, he got a big 4 door dually on the page without overunning the page. Me tips me hat to you for that, wish others would learn that trick.

I loaded my Wife's Honda Odyssey on the trailer and intended on taking everything for a test run down the highway, but as I was turning the trailer around I blew out a tire, so I went ahead and put new tires on the trailer. I guess I'll see how the Power Stroke pulls a load once the 62 F250 is loaded.

My Wife had asked me to try and find a cap for the bed of the Power Stroke so our luggage doesn't get wet on the way to AL. Today I found a Century brand bed topper that's very nice. It's a utility top, so each side has access to their own 5ft or so tool storage area, plus the rear has two doors that take up the tailgate area and swing open with windows in them giving access to the bed of the truck. The guy told me new it was a $3500 topper, (seems insane to me!) I picked it up installed for $350 woot woot!! I'll take a picture tomorrow. I love it...it looks nice, I can store all my tools, straps, chains etc in the tool bins and it will keep our luggage dry.

Well, I must say, it used to be in better condition!

I guess 7-8 years sitting under a Pine Tree has taken it's toll.

After looking at the toll box access in the bed, I can say it was a prior owner who for some reason added that.

I knew this truck would be a project, but after looking over it briefly as I was loading it up, the rust seems pretty extensive. The interior is damp and musty and the motor may be locked up...

The truck ended up being in TN on the fellow's property and it sure is beautiful country. This is a tunnel I had to pass through just down the way from his home:
