DIY Clearance Roof lights

My truck came without the roof clearance lights, has anybody installed these on there own? it cant be to hard? i did it on a old dodge but thats a pretty basic truck to do things to.

so if i buy the ford lights from edparts guy and go to put them on... is it pre wired or is it just a plug that comes with the harness i just plug into the light switch?

thanks

not prewired ,, you can get the recon kit for a new install or retrofit fords

,
,
the headliner needs to come loose and the visors, grabhandles come off also
if you use the recon units pm me for some tips

well it depend on your recon lenses ,, were they for ford oem lights? or the recon retrofit lights? probably the oem so you need ford light bases ,, see ebay or ford ,, on the recon lights you grab a running light wire in the right kick panel .. atleast on the 04-07

thanks alot Zmann, looks to me like the recon is the way to go for price and looks like it is set up for a guy like me who doesnt have them already on the roof... and you could give me some pointers .

i will call them tomorow and order over the phone, i may get a better deal by saving them the 3% that paypal charges them

how hard was your instal? what was the major part you came across

what did you do after you drilled through the roof to keep the water out etc.

thanks

well recon gives you screws but not the nylon inserts that snap into the sheetmetal after you drill the hole ,, so you need those or sheet metal screws ,, the connector that the light plugs into on the harness were never made to go together and will come loose so tape or secure those well

they have foam bases and recomend sealing ,, I don't suggest silicone ,, I would use clear latex caulk next time

ps mine had black bases because I ordered the smoked lenses ,, but they painted over chrome and had issues so I repainted those ,, I also called them and discussed my concerns so maybe they fixed the issues? either way I would still pick this over OEM
because of the smoked lenses and LED's

The led's might not plug and play in OEM? but maybe someone sells them? anyway the ground is easy just find a bolt under the headliner to grab ,,the light wire + runs down the right pillar and into the right kick panel you splice into a wire there .. if you find the instructions lacking the info let me know I will check what wire it was

lol it's not that bad plus you really run it a little further to the door sill and there isn't many wires in that loom
