Rear Axle..10.5 vs 10.25
I was positive that the differential in an older 10.25 axle would fit in our 10.5 housing if you changed the carrier bearings. Is this true or not. I can not really find the information im looking for other then some places are listing lockers as interchanging.
I have a mint lsd out of an 86 1ton with the 10.25, and my 00 is a single spinner. Can I swap these diffs.
Thanks guys.

I cannot give you a definite answer, but when I purchased my Tru-trac, they sent me one for a 10.5. My truck has the 10.25 and the only difference we could find was the pinion bearing was a different size. Everything else fit fine and has been running for over 30K miles. I would vote that it would fit fine>

I did some research and the carrier bearings are the same for the 10.25" and the 10.5". The big difference is the 10.25 has a 2 pinion spider gear set and the 10.5 has a 3 pinion. The 10.25 LSD's were cheaper than the 10.5's because of this. Physically, they are the same dimensions. I was looking at this for an option when looking for a LSD, until I decided on going with my Truetrac.
