running boards

Hi i want to fit my running boards to the brakets and was woundering if any rubber has to be fitted to the brackets where they bolt to?? its for a 54 f100

I put the rubber doughnut/bolt in the front and used rubber fender welt where the fenders bolt to the back of the boards. This is on the fenders not the brace beneath the boards,

Page 103 of the Mid 50's catalog does not show any rubber spacers or anything between the running boards and the braces. It only shows a rubber grommet between the running board and front fender. You might have a look.

On my 56 the running boards are bolted right to the braces. But I know they've been R&R'd at some point so that is not absolute proof of no rubber.
