300 CID into 5.8l Airbox question

Hi,

I understand the 300 cid air inlet from the factory airbox goes to the side of the headlight, where as the one on my 5.8 goes above the radiator.

I wanted to know if the airbox's are the same and only the inlet tubes are different and also If the tube is available new by itself from any of the F150 parts shops or I need to go to wrecking yards.

Thanks

The entrance to the side of the air filter box is the same. I picked up my 300 duct at the wrecker for $5 bucks. I trimmed the "curve" where it pokes through the rad support & drilled a 1/4 inch hole at the back to drain any water that might get in.

The tube is not available new. I have tried several suppliers as well as obsolete Ford parts sites. Best bet is a JY or E-bay

There are still plenty available in J-yards...............You have to look hard, sometimes they get thrown on the ground or in the cab. If you find one still mounted up, save the mount. screw and threaded insert, that way it bolts up with no modification.

What mount is there?

I swapped my 5.0/5.8 tube for the I6/460 tube. It just snaps into the air box and goes through the radiator support. I don't see anything else to mount it to.

Here is mine.

At the end of tube where it goes thru the rad. support, there is a bracket that bolts to a threaded insert in the rad. support............It may have been deleted on later models?
Just makes sure it never comes loose.

I'll look on mine and see if there is a provision for that. I didn't even know about it.
