Frozen windshield wiper fluid in reservoir

Any one ever have this happen, a few days ago I went to use the fluid to wash the windshield and nothing came out, so I went to put some fluid in and it was half full with ice floating in it. I must of had some condensation or bad fluid in there. Problem is I don't have a warm shop to put it in and I assume the lines are frozen too. Any suggestions?

I used to have this happen before I started using the minus 40 crap all year round.

Heat gun or in my case the womans hair dryer. I went and thawed all the lines and the tank as best I could.

One time took out what I could, then heated up the new fluid, then put it in the tank, that worked well, but still had to mess around with the lines.

What he said. Mine is froze right now so I am waiting for the 40+ weather to get here to thaw it all out. I am going to drain and switch to the -40 stuff.

I've seen summer blend on the label before. Guess it doesn't have any or as much alcohol. Just guessing though.

Use rubbing alcohal. Dump about a cup in it. Then take a hair dryer to the lines. Dont keep usin the stuff though. It will eventually crack the rubber hoses and you'll be leakin everywhere!

What did you heat the fluid with? I thought of that but it has methanol in it so it's flammable.

Never noticed that stuff, I hope they wouldn't sell that in MN.

The driver's side line froze while we were on the highway this morning. We pulled off the highway and ate lunch. I poured the 20 below crap in the reservoir before we went in for lunch. We came back out and it wasn't frozen anymore.

If I remember right I used a pot to "boil" it, but didnt boil it just warmed it up.

I would think some isopropyl alcohol would do the trick Jason. Too bad your so far away or you could put it in my garage for a while. Of course you would have to help put the wifes intake back together on her Llumina. haha

Good luck. I know that sucks.

Just for the heck of it I will throw this out...JCWhitney has a heater you can install around your tank to keep it from freezing. But if you look on ebay (if you are an Ebayer) I have seen the exact same thing around 10 bucks or so.

Jay, I put some isopropyl in there earlier this afternoon. I also took a long rod and poked it in there the bottom is solid ice, so I don't know how well the isopropyl is going to work. The tank was just about full too, so there is a lot of ice in there.

A wrap around heater might help melt the solid ice that is in there. It looks pretty hard to access battery is in the way. I may as well just pull the reservoir and thaw it in the house if I start to pull stuff to get to it.

The rubbing alcohol will drop the freezing point in the fluid. Im thinking of tryin to make my own with water, soap, and rubbing alcohol. Who knows, it make work wonders and Ill save myself a few bux a year by doin so.
