From Oil Bath to Cartridge conversion

Hey all, I notice several of you converted your oil bath air cleaners to paper air cleaners. I am about to service my 240 ci in my 65 f100. I would love to get rid of the oil bath but maintain the original air cleaner housing. Are there special conversion steps (besides cleaning out the old oil?), or do I just buy a round filter to fit? If so, what size should I look for? Finally, is it even a good idea to convert? I know it is easier to deal with a paper filter, but the oil bath sure keeps out a lot of dirt - the carb throat is clean as a whistle.

Just curious, why are you wanting to convert? Maintenance of the oil bath is pretty simple. Dump the old oil and replace with new when you change your oil, usually 3,000 miles or so, unless you live in a dusty environment.

Thanks for the reply grits. I noticed you converted one of your trucks to a paper air cleaner. I know it is easy to deal with the oil bath, but I was wondering about changing to a paper cartridge - any modifications of the filter housing needed? What size filter would I need? Thanks.

That was on my 223 before I became an OB convert :-). I had to cut the guts out of my AC and just used trial and error to find a paper filter that would fit. I literally went into the stock room of the local O'Reilly's with the clerk and we opened boxes until we found one that would fit. It works fine, but sort of wish I had left it alone. If the AC on the 240 is the same size as the 223 AC I will be glad to measure it for you (not sure if I still have the box or not).

air filter

I want to do the same on my 1967 f100 300 ci
I want to add a heat tube for warm up.
Second I want a bigger air cleaner for more air intake.
If I have a cleaner that i can connect a intake tube to I can increase performance. my uses a ford one bbl with oil bath

I'm thinking about making the switch also, must be a concern w\ alot of owners. Before I do, does anyone have an easy way to remove the mesh inside the housing?
