sorry for 2 replys, I accidently hit the back button, and then looked at this thread again and it did not show my reply, so I thought it got erased when I hit the back button.
I was wondering if he ever found a solution to the problem i have the same with mine. My heat is warm but has never been burning hot like other people have had.
And i did flush my heater core out and both hoses are hot coming out.
Since both heater hoses are hot the problem is inside the HVAC housing.....most likely the blend door. As the name implies....it blends outside air with the heated air from the heater core to adjust the cabin temperature. It could be blocked, broken or the actuator is shot.
If a pencil or similar item has been dropped down the defrost vent it will block the blend door from moving. You can remove the blower motor under the hood and reach you hand in side the HVAC box...see what you find.
The actuator can be seen after you remove the glove box.
Is the blend door the thing that your cool and hot slider switch is hooked to because i checked to make sure it was opening and closing and it is and i took the heater core out to flush and found no blocking. how many vaccum switches are there on this. i found 2 on inside the truck is work and the one under the hood needs a new vaccum line but i opened and closed the door it operates and had no differnce.
my problem was bad cable. just unhocked it for now. Probably will replace the heater core on a warmer day. only 31.00 for the heater core. ? on laber or just do my self.

Wendal - do it yourself!
All of this is from memory - but pretty recent memory.
With that year of truck it's pretty easy. You just unhook the glove box and you'll see the air plenum for the truck HVAC staring you in the face.
Just remove all the small bolts (7 or 8?) and take out. 10mm or so?
From the engine just losen the hose clamps and jimmy off the hoses. Mine were stubborn. take out heater core from behind where the glove box used to be.
Replace with the new heater core.
When you put the hoses back on have someone hold the new heater core from the inside so you can get the hoses on firmly and as far into the core as possible. If you are plastic man from fantastic four then only one person is required for this part of the job!
Tighten them back up.
Put the cover back on the plenum and then the glove box.
I did it in a little under an hour a few months ago. My wife helped with holding the core while I put on the hoses.
That being said - I have to go back in mine again and check the blend door. I changed the H.Core back in September but .....my heat sucks. Changed it cuz I saw steam coming from the defroster vents on humid mornings in September. Knew it was the H.C.
what does the vacum switch under the hood do? mines not hooked up and can't tell any differnce in heat when i move it either way. going to fix it but cant find what it does in my books.
10 4 will do myself. My truck had a broken white vaccum hose as well. I have no idea what it does either. I found the other end in the wire loom. used the black rubber vaccum hose to splice it back together. Like you I could not find what it did.
Thanks for the install tips.
I got the heater core replaced on saturday. did it in an hour or so maybe less. I have perty good heat now. its not burn you out but a major improvement over what I had before.
thanks for all the great help
