Welcome to FTE.
Maybe the two could be related, IF you have a vacuum leak.
Do you have a CEL lit????
If so, run this puppy by your favorite autoparts store for a no cost computer trouble code scan & post All of the code Numbers here, as they may offer up clues.
Have you looked under hood for loose, ill fitting, broken, or dryrotted vacuum lines, or connections????
Did the engine rpm & the heater acting out, begin at the same time???? If so include any heater control vacuum line, or control connections for inspection.
Edit: Could also be the throttle cable hanging up, or maybe throttle body bore, or plate deposits, hanging things up, so maybe have a look-see & if so, remove & carefully clean it with throttle body syray cleaner.
Some thoughts to ponder, let us know what you find.

If the CEL is lit, there are trouble codes stored in the computer. So what was used to scan the computer????
There really isn't much to the vacuum system in the way of hoses. Brake booster, Evap system, Climate control system, EGR system, PCV valve.
Pick one & inspect it's vacuum hoses & fittings, then move on to the next suspect, until you've looked them all over.
If you can't find anything obvious, you might try rigging a stethosope, using a piece of tubing, one end to your ear, the other to the suspect.
Or rent one, or an ultrasonic listening device for locating vacuum leaks, in your local autoparts stores Loan-A-Tool program, for a refundable deposit.
Or rig a propane sniffer & probe suspected vacuum leaks & watch your tachometer, or listen for a change in idle speed, when it gets a whiff.
