I have a 25K whole house back up generator (Propane) and it's block heater is on 24/7, 365 with no ill effects. It also self starts once a week for 15 minutes.

This is a good time of year to go pick up a timer if you don't have one. The heavy duty outdoor rated Xmas light timers work great. Get one that is rated for 15A or so.
