I'm in the market for a new floor jack. Mainly for rotating tires on the SD etc. What ton should I be looking at and brands? I have a sears, harbor frieght, lowes etc local. Thanks

 

I have had a 3 ton Sears for several years now, no complaints.

 

my old sears MADE IN USA 3 ton is WAY better built than the new 3 ton my brother just bought MADE IN PRC aka PEOPLES REPUPLIC OF CHINA even the snap on ones are made in china and cheap looking not cheap$$ I would look on craigslist and try and find one a few years old made in usa that hasent been used much

 

I have a 3 ton Craftsman Professional aluminum jack. I am happy with it. Some models are not very good, so do some searches for reviews. I would not get less than a 3 ton.

 

I bought a 9,000 lb. asymetrical 2 post lift and am very happy with it.

 

Agreed the two post lift, the best way to go, if you have the room for it. You can get them for about $2000.

 

That is what I paid, made in the USA, and another 150 to rent a fork lift for unloading and assembly.

 

No room for such a lift right now, but it sure would be nice.

 

I always just use a 20 ton air bottle jack. My last floor jack decided to play out when i had just taken the tire off my service truck and about took my hand with it. I then took it and threw it in the scrap pile right next to the handy man jack. Never will use either one again. Went and bought 4 20 tons and been using them ever sense.

 

That's why you ALWAYS use jack stands.

 

I got a big 3.5 ton Craftsman floor jack with the speed lift feature. Works great and gets the truck up quick. I have a bottle jack for those road side repairs.

 

Why do you think my hand was under the truck for? It was a chevy truck and had the indepentant front end and i jacked it up on the a frame and took the tire off then went to put the stand under the a frame when the jack failed. It was not a small jack it was a 5 ton. But just goes to show no matter what it is it can and will fail at one time or another.

 

alway put the jack stand under the frame befor taking the tire all the way off. Ive seen this happen myself. for me shoping for a jack would be a 10t rated for shop use.
for home either 3 or 5t would work just fine. I tend to not like the one pump speed jack type they seem to have more issues with not working right.

 

25,000lb two post asymetrical lift. Got tired of blowing out 3 ton jacks I guess It's actually my buddies at his shop .1 miles from my house. The Excursion is heavy. I used jacks once. got the jack to about 60% and pop, and it lowered. Blew hte hydraulic seal. Got another out of the garage, same thing. 3rd, and I'm done iwth floor jacks. Now I just meander down to the garage and put it on the lift. Rotating tires at 3' off the ground is cake. Ball joints, wheel hubs, brakes, oil changes, filter changes, the whole 9 yards. I don't even own a jack anymore other htan my motorcycle jack. Mostly because I haven't replaced those 3 broken ones.

 

Like stated above......20 ton air/hydraulic bottle jack, I just paid $80 for a Blackjack and it is the ****! With the $ saved by not buying a floor jack (already have 2 of them, 3 ton) I was able to buy some BEEFY jack stands. Now that I have onboard air my 20 ton goes with me when off-roading. BTW, the standard 3 ton floor jacks are not safe to use on the front of these trucks given their weight!
