RAV Purchase?

New member to FTE.......current Duramax owner, but considering an '08 F350 Lariat with a 6.4 (45,000 miles). Asking price is $34k.

First and foremost, the truck I'm looking at is an RAV.

I've got the Oasis report and at 14,500 miles, the engine was replaced.

The remaining line items up to the current mileage are mostly FSA's. (The oil pump gasket was replaced shortly after the motor job)

The dealer assures me that Ford takes RAV's back in and fixes the issues. They also advise that if I were to bring this truck back in for a trade, it would not affect future purchases.....

I'm just looking for some opinions.....would this truck be worth considering, or should I move on? (Cosmetically, the truck is perfect.)

Thanks to all......

Since the truck has gone about 30,000 mi. since the engine swap with no major problems, I 'd take it if I were you. Not sure about what kind of prices they command, but the truck sounds good. Besides, you would still have another 55,000 mi left on the powertrain warranty. If I missed something, somebody else will chime in I'm sure. Good luck.

I believe you're confusing the engine warranty and the powertrain warranty. The engine has a 100,000 mile warranty, but the powertrain only has a 60,000 mile warranty. So you would only have 15,000 miles left of coverage for the transmission, driveshaft, axles, etc.

What's a RAV?

might consider it with an extended warranty to cover both eng and powertrain and try to get as much other stuff as you can.

What's a RAV?

I was going by memory so I may be mistaken about the powertrain warranty. My point was really concerning the engine because it was swapped out for whatever reason. I think the RAV means (something like) re-aquired vehicle.

In other words a buy back. For the asking price and the buy back status I would think that you have a strong case to get a free ESP.

Thanks to all for the info.

I failed to mention that I also contacted the former owner and they reported no problems.

I would look for another truck. In April I bought an 08' F-350 supercab larait 4x4 fully loaded with NAV and only 27K on the ticker. I got it taxes, tags, out the door for $32,000.00. I think they are asking too much. Get them to lower the price and its a good deal. Just my .02

Great minds think alike!! I really can't believe what some of these dealers are thinking. We have a local ford dealer here in town and they have an 06' larait with 57k and they want 30,000, are they serious? I see these type of ridiculous prices everywhere.

What they said above, price too high. See my signature, bought with 4000 miles in June of 09 for $30K even. I think that price reflects the demand for 6.4L trucks. JMHO BTW i added the tank and the bling.
