Torqueshift in a 7.3?

I was wondering if you could put a torqueshift AOD in a 1999 F-350, and what do you need to do? Thanks

Almost anything is possible with enough money.

It would be far easier and cheaper to just get a built 4R100. There would be a lot that you would have to do to mate up the 7.3 with the torqshift that it wouldn't be worth it. It would be easier to just buy a truck with it already in there.

Possible? Like Johnny said, anything's possible with enough money. But, let's review what you'd need to do:

1) Bellhousing adapter to make it bolt up to the 7.3 - not sure if these exist, it'd probably have to be custom made.

2) PCM that knows two things. One, how to control the Torqshift, and Two, how to control a 7.3 - THIS DOES NOT EXIST. I think you'd have to find an aftermarket Torqshift controller (which does exist), and a manual (stick) PCM for the 7.3.

It's not a simple bolt-in, and wire up.

Like Tex said, you're much better off getting a beafed-up 4R100 and just bolting it in.

Why do you want a torqshift?

If it's for durability, I'd suggest a built 4R100 done by one of the more reputable shops. If you want more gear ratios, maybe a Gear Vendors under/overdrive would be in order. $3,000 buys you another 4 ratios to use, and wouldn't require any custom computer work.

Gear Vendors under/overdrive transmissions the most awarded auxiliary transmissions.

The TorqShift in an older truck won't work without BIG $$$ spent, it would require a really high end stand alone controller to run it. Plus the bolt pattern on the bellhousing is different.

If you want more gears you could look at the 6-speed manual, of course I'm biased

That would be easier and cheaper than the torqueshift conversion I would think, but would still require a lot of work and parts but if you can find a donor vehicle you would have almost everything.
