OK My Ex is realitivly new to me. Got back from a trip up the hills pulling a pretty much empty trailer (maybe 2K LBS) I notice and have been noticing a loud continuous woosh when in overdrive and trying to accelerate. It quits doing it at around 70 and then I build a "normal" amount of boost of 10-11 PSI. The other thing I noticed when it does this I can push the pedal all the way until just before it shifts down and I may only get 4-5lbs of boost at 60 mph, this seems low. It sounds like a continuous blow off of boost. No codes or CEL. Everytime the truck shifts it blows off which I think is normal. I can hear it because there is a volant cold air intake on it. I just need to know what to check. I am going to check out the EBPS tube tomorrow. Could it be the sensor and not throw a code? What could cause this? Thanks
I've been noticing that too. It's weird because I can still boost good numbers at WOT, and it seems to boost respectable numbers otherwise. The sound you're describing is very familiar though. It sounds like my 6637 woosh, but quieter and continuous under those circumstances.
I you are getting a churping sound it could be turbo surge. The woosh is the turbo getting rid of the air that it has sucked in and does not need anymore when the tranny shifts.
Between shifts is okay- while trying to accelerate is called surge, and is very bad for the turbo. Take it out of OD until you can put a Wicked Wheel on it. 99% of the time, that will fix it. If not, look into a ported compressor housing.
Simplest thing to check are the four rubber boots on the intercooler and the two orange rubber boots on the bottom side of the spider. Sounds like one or more may have a loose clamp.
Definatly not a chirping, a continuous shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh that changes tones as the truck slowly sppeds up. Like I said at about 70 it quits and then I build 10-11 PSI. i am currently unprogramed and stock. It sounds almost like the blow off valve (I guess there is one) is sticking 1/2 way. It is the same sound as between the shifts which I was pretty sure was blow off. I also get only about 15psi with the stock tune at WOT
I am ordering a wicked wheel tonight anyway. Izzy, I do not think it would be surge that would be more of a flutter sound correct. It does it on my 6.0 all the time when you spool up real quick then back to idle (I.E. when you bury your truck in the sand and you are rocking it out LOL) I have heard flutter out of my 7.3 a couple of times in the same instance of my 6.0.
I get a surge everytime I push my truck a lil bit. It does sound like the chchchchchchchch until I back out of it some. Just how bad is it for the turbo?

It's possible that the wastegate is opening too soon due to a bad wastegate solenoid. To rule this out remove the red tube from the wastegate actuator on top of the turbo and stick it on one of the IC boot clamp bolts so it does not leak. Then go for a WOT test and see if you get an increase in boost. If you only get an increase of a couple of pounds then that is not it, but if you go from your previous of 15 to over 20 then that definately will point to a wastegate solenoid problem. It's an easy enough way to at least rule it in or out.
Kinda sounds like something that's perfectly normal to me. Dont worry about it, it's just un muffling normal engine noises... I think you all are just helping the guy spend his money and get hooked on the mods, lol.
